Spring Carnival & Talent Show 2015

By Mr Martin Hughes

Dear Parents and

Hanova's Annual Spring Carnival 2015. This year’s Hanova carnival was played out in fantastically warm and sunny weather.  Last year we raised a record 18,000rmb for charity, which was comfortably surpassed by this year’s 20,000rmb.  This was a fantastic effort from the students, the staff, the Board, but most of all the parents and community who turned up to support us.  Elim Orphanage were most grateful for sharing the proceeds of the fund raising with UNICEF Nepal earthquake appeal.  There were so many great games, a pizza filled lunch accompanied by some lovely food from the parents, all topped off with a glimpse at some of the wonderfully talented students we have in Hanova.

The students had integrated many activities into the curriculum in preparation for the day.  Thank you once again for your support.

Year 1 Bake Day. Year 1 had focussed their recent school trip as the culmination of their Unit of Inquiry.  With the help of 10 wonderful mums the children had a bake afternoon last week using their carefully planned purchases.  When this was sold off at a stall at the Carnival a fantastic total of 1200rmb was raised.  Well done to Year 1 and thanks to the parents who were able to help.

Middle Years Programme (MYP) Consultant. A most successful MYP Consultant visit took place last week.  The consultant was able to confirm that most things were in place for the school’s MYP authorisation and praised the staff for their professionalism and in particular the leadership and hard work put in by our MYP Coordinator, Mr David English.  We await the consultant’s report, but unofficially have been told that there is little awaiting completion to get our application completed on the due date of 1st October for us to seek authorisation around about February 2016.  Well done to the Secondary team and we look forward to a successful second International Baccalaureate (IB) authorisation.

School Yearbook. A reminder about the school yearbook. Our third edition is being printed.  This is a photographic record of the school year and contains photos of every student as a class photo and individually as well.  The book is a hardback, as last year, and will be available for 200rmb.

If you would like to order a copy then please send 200rmb to the Office in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and class on.  The yearbook will be distributed on Thursday 18th June to all students who have ordered a copy.  If you are leaving the school a little earlier then please contact the Office to ensure your copy of the yearbook can be supplied early enough.

Reports and Parent Consultations. You should receive a printed copy of your child’s report if they are in the primary school on Friday, 12th June. The secondary will be emailed and accessed via Managebac.  These too should arrive on Friday.

The main purpose of the reports is to formally communicate information to parents twice a year on their child’s progress and achievement as a learner.

Each student is unique in their profile of learning across the broad range of academic, intellectual, social, emotional and physical development.  The report will identify strengths and challenges as well as indicating next steps that might assist in improving learning.

Parents may have questions they wish to raise or issues to clarify after receiving the reports.  Staff will be available during the week beginning 15th June.  Please contact Lucy Liu (lucy.liu@his-xian.com) or Zena Yang (zena.yang@his-xian.com) if you would like a consultation with a teacher(s).

Best regards,

Martin Hughes
