Secondary Community Sport Event

By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

April is over, and we are all preparing for the short May Holiday, with the end of the school year quickly approaching. Hereafter the news and the activities information related to this week.

International Day Celebration. Friday 29th April Hanova will celebrate International Day, to show international mindedness – as promoted by the International Baccalaureate – and to recognize all the different nationalities and culture present in our school. A full day of activities, food and fun is planned for our students, staff, parents and members of the community: we will provide all the details in next week’s newsletter.

Primary Football Tournament at Xi’an Stadium. Last weekend, our Year 5 – Year 6 Football team had the opportunity to experience a great event: they took part of a soccer tournament organized at the People’s Stadium of Xi’an. It was a friendly game where they had the opportunity to feel what it is like when you participate in a big football event. Some of our young players were excited, others nervous, with all parents cheering for them. It was a well worth Saturday morning that our students will have in their minds as their first soccer game in a stadium. A great thanks to Mr. Chao, Mr. Lynn, Mr. Brown and all parents who made it possible.

Secondary Athletics Event at Xi’an High-Tech International School. Last weekend our Secondary students went with a strong team to Xi’an Hi-Tech International School for athletics and football competitions between the 2 schools, with both schools vying for first place. There were some great runs and our younger girls, Amina, Melina and Daniela, from Year 7 and Year 8, placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in most of their races (Amina even managed to set a school record in the 200m!), while Amee, form Year 11, was also dominant in her races.

The boys found it very competitive but we still saw wins for Robin in the 50m and Collins in the 200m and strong results from all of our seniors.

In the end, Hanova won the whole event with 368 points to 256.

The final football game was a fast and tense match, with Hi-Tech taking a 2 – 0 lead in the first half time. However, after some rearrangements in the team and some motivating words from our coach (Mr. Lynn) our team was back in the game, and Eric - the youngest player on the pitch, scored immediately a goal. This set up a frenetic pace and our boys finally leveled the game at 2 – 2, and this is where it ended.

Well done to all our boys and girls for showing true Hanova spirit in competing and in congratulating their fellow athletes from Hi Tech.

Again, a great thanks to Mr. Lynn, Mr. Lerouvillois and all parents who made it possible.

Year 8 Design Education Out Of The Classroom Day. The Year 8 Class, inside the Design and Technology course, went on a field trip to Gran Melia Xi’an to experience a real cooking class and learn about tools and technologies used in the food and hospitality industry. All students enjoyed the morning and experienced the challenge of preparing professional dishes using cutting and cooking tools, following plans and recipes, tasting the cooked dishes to provide feedback and evaluation.

A great thanks to the Gran Melia staff and management for the extensive support provided.

IGCSE Exams. IGCSE exams in the Music room continue this week with Geography, English and Mathematics. Students who are taking more than 5 IGCSE subjects are studying independently at this time. We all wish our students success in their studies.

ECA Block 3. ECA Block 3 started on Wednesday, April 20th and will continue until the end of May. We remind that Wednesday school activities will finish at 4:30pm and buses will leave accordingly.

Education Out Of The Classroom Activities. Primary and Secondary School are planning our residential Education Out of The Classroom Activities for this school year. Please pay attention to briefings sent to parents and reply to the homeroom teachers as soon as possible with the required information.

School Uniforms. We remind to parents again that students should be in school uniform. If you have any problem please don’t hesitate to contact our Liaison officer Ms. Yang (zena.yang@his-xian.com).

Transportation Notice. We’ve send out a notice to the parents whose child(ren) are taking the school bus, to improve the related communications. For the detailed information, please refer to the message. Or address any inquiry to our Liaison officer Ms. Yang (zena.yang@his-xian.com).

Security. A reminder about our strengthened security measures on campus, as we communicated with specific emails and letters to all parents and staff. Parents’ and visitors’ access will be more regulated on campus and please make sure to send the requested photo to our Liaison officer Ms. Yang (zena.yang@his-xian.com).

Thanks again for your continuing support.

Yours,

Francesco Masetti-Placci
