Hanova welcomes Mr Robert Munzter as School Principal

By Mr Robert Muntzer

Dear Parents and friends

I hope this finds all of the Hanova community well and that our students are having a well-deserved holiday.

It is a pleasure and an honour to become the school’s principal and I would like to take this opportunity to say something about what plans we have at Hanova and some of the planned developments we have for the next academic year, 2018-2019.

Hanova International School has grown and developed rapidly since its founding in August 2012. Thanks to the efforts of the teaching staff, administration, parents and the school board, we are now officially an IB World Continuum School, offering all three programmes – PYP, MYP and the IB Diploma.

As some parents may know, the International Baccalaureate (IB) is rigorous in its authorization and re-evaluation procedures to ensure that all IB World Schools maintain the highest quality academic programmes. It is the only educational organization in the world to do so.

Each IB programme – PYP, MYP or Diploma – in a school must be re-evaluated within a five year period after authorization. It seems amazing to realize that Hanova faces its first 5 Year Review (5YR) next year. In October 2019, we will have our IB Diploma 5 Year Review. Part of the procedure towards this review includes the completion of a 130 page self-study; so we will be calling upon our parents and students in Years 10 to 13 to help us in this. We look forward to working with you on this project.

In 2020 and 2021 we will be undertaking our IB reviews of our PYP and MYP respectively. It is my personal aim, as school Principal, to ensure that we are well-prepared, well in advance of the official IB deadlines.

Therefore, our school strategic plan – which I will be sharing with parents, staff and students upon our return in August – reflects this timeline.

In addition to these, Hanova has already become a WASC candidate school in 2016. This will better enable our students to gain admission to even more US universities as well as ensuring better administration and governance within Hanova. Our aim is to use the IB Diploma 5 Year Review documentation – policies and practices – as the basis of this application, which we hope to complete before the end of the academic year 2018-2019.

In response to parental requests, we are, as part of these reviews and applications, planning to attend to some issues that have arisen.

Since English is the school’s ‘language of instruction’ and that – with the exception of Chinese , Korean, and Spanish classes – all classes are taught in the English language, we will be reviewing and developing our English provision so that our students in all year groups can better access the curriculum.

Hanova prides itself on being a ‘student-centred’ school, providing for the needs and ambitions of our students. We will, therefore, be addressing these needs, inside and outside the classroom.

Our aim in 2018-2019 will be to review and develop our ECA and EOTC programmes in Primary and Secondary School. In particular, we hope to provide a more meaningful range of ECA opportunities and to establish a range of sustainable EOTC excursions for all year groups.

On a more personal note, I would like to say that we have a wonderful student body that we should be proud of. Therefore, it is my hope that they remain the centre of our efforts so that their years at Hanova can be not only rewarding but as enjoyable as much as possible. In order to achieve this aim, I will be improving the communications systems between the school and the parental community to establish a more effective and efficient dialogue for our students’ benefit.

I hope you all have a prosperous and happy week and I will be speaking to you all again soon.

Best regards,

Robert C. Muntzer

Principal
