Dear Parents and friends

Christmas Market and Winter Concert – Saturday, 8th December. This exciting and community fun-filled event is devoted to a day of fun and social activities for the whole family. The Christmas committee are working hard in preparation for the day to ensure it will be an outstanding, fun event for all.

This event will start at 10am at Hanova International School campus with a full programme of fun crafts and social activities. Further details of ticketing, food and craft events to be announced next week.

We are also proud to announce that the proceeds of this event will be donated to the Chunshan Education Foundation library charity to highlight the “principled action” characteristics of IB education. Please see link for more information: http://www.chunshan.org/

Representatives from the Chunshan Foundation will be present at the Christmas Market and they will receive a public donation from Hanova that will include the funds raised last year with those received from our generous sponsors this year.

The PYP Winter Concert is the SAME day this year, it will take place in the afternoon of the Christmas market and further information will be shared shortly.

News from Secondary School. Thank you to all the parents of our IB Diploma students in Years 12 and 13 who attended the Parent Student Teacher conferences on Wednesday. Every parent managed to attend!

Next Friday afternoon there will be an inter-house football tournament in the secondary school. The tournament will begin at 1.15pm and parents are invited to watch the competition.

One of the teachers in the Secondary School, Ms Dokic, is doing some research for her Master’s Degree. This research is on the use of technology in international classrooms. She would like to do interviews with students in the secondary school about their use and understanding of technology. These interviews will be brief and require written consent from parents. This research has been endorsed by the Board of Hanova International School and we hope all parents will be able to support this. Consent forms will be coming home with students for signing.

On the 24 and 25 November Hanova will be hosting the Xi’an Region National Secondary Schools Debate. A number of students from our school will be participating and parents are welcome to support.

As well, a number of students in the school will be contributing to performances at a number of different Christmas events around Xi’an. I wish those performing all the best. Please come along and support your child.

Arts Assembly – November 30th. MYP students in Years 7 to 11 have been working very hard to prepare for the forthcoming Arts Assembly on Friday, 30th November. The performances include students from Year 7 Drama, presenting a musical version of the ‘Twelfth Night’ play, and students in Year 11 will be presenting the play ‘Wedding Party’ by Anton Chekov. Music students in Years 7 and 8 will also be performing, and they will be joined by our MYP Orchestra.

All parents and our community are invited this celebration of our students’ talents. For those of you who miss this chance, the students will be performing again at the various hotel events later.

News from Primary School. Every Wednesday during period 7 the corridors of the Primary School are buzzing with excited students moving to their ECA (Extra Curricular Activities). This semester students from Nursery to Year 6 were able to choose from a rich variety of activities, such as sport, art, science, music, cooking or personal well-being.

We recognize that our ECA programme plays an important part in the development of a well-balanced PYP student. We are happy that we can offer a wide range of activities and clubs to our students to nurture their interests and talents. Each ECA cycle lasts for 8 weeks so students can experience four different clubs throughout the academic year and learn new skills. We are proud of our students’ commitment to learning new skills. They are truly being open-minded risk-takers!

We’re sorry to report that the planned PYP Inter-schools football competitions on Saturday have had to be postponed; further information will be released as soon as we learn about the alternate date.

Thanks again for your continuing support.

Yours,

Robert C. Muntzer
