News from the Principal - written by Mr Rob Muntzer, Principal. Dear Members of the Hanova Community,
As promised, I am sharing the commendations - ‘Areas of School Strengths’ - from the recent WASC Mid-Cycle Visit with you.
As I have said before, such accreditation visits involve all our community - staff, parents and students - and, as such, provide us with invaluable feedback upon which we can further improve the quality of our learning environment.
The commendations are quoted below:
- The collaboration of all stakeholders (School Board, Leadership, Teachers, Families, and Students) to effect a positive move to the new facility amidst a dramatic backdrop of worldwide educational challenges.
- The use and organization of Managebac by all instructional staff as a reservoir for student assessment and growth thus maintaining current personal learning plans for all students.
- The teachers for providing care and support for students, which is evident from both students and parent testimony.
- The support staff provide dedicated care for staff, students and families in the school, during the pandemic situations and otherwise, delivering quality support with an excellent problem-solving mindset.
- The parents who provide enthusiastic support for students and the school during the times of the school move and times of online instruction.
- The students for the ownership of their learning as they take academic risks and develop a greater understanding of the school’s curriculum and offerings.
- The staff for conducting a well planned and implemented virtual WASC Mid-cycle Review Process that engaged the entire learning community in participating in schoolwide improvement measures.
- The School Board has provided strong financial resources and planning support to create a vibrant new school facility for XHIS that is both safe and encourages student-centered instruction.
- The School Board, Leadership, and Teachers for their vibrant use of technology relevant throughout the entire school.
The Pedagogical Leadership Team (PLT) are currently studying the four areas for improving the school as indicated in the WASC Report.
I intend to share this information with all our community as soon as possible.
In the meantime, I would like to thank again those staff, students and parents who helped us achieve these commendations.
Secondary Science Assembly - written by Mr Aristipo Rodriguez, Head of Secondary. Last Friday, 6th May at Secondary school we had our Science assembly in which our students, working in house teams, could apply their knowledge to solve some interesting challenges. It was a very entertaining activity for our students. Science teachers are very proud of our Hanova scientists that showed us their sharp scientific and analytical skills, making them a good example of most of the IB learner profile attributes, like inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers and reflective.
Upper Primary Sports Day - Written by Mr Paul Robinson, Director of Sports. Wednesday May 11th saw the first Primary School Sports Day to be held at our new campus. There was red, yellow, blue and green all around the track and the field along with huge smiles and great energy!
The children competed in events such as 50/60m sprints, long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin, basketball, dodgeball, football and tug o’war. Each event was worth points that went towards Primary Sports Day house shield and PYP Male and Female Athlete of the Year. There was some great competition, and examples of great sportsmanship throughout the day.
At the end of a long day of competition it was Tang house who were the Sports Day champions of 2022.
The PYP Male Athletes of the Year were Abraham Smith and James Choi, while Anna Liu was the PYP Female Athlete of the Year.
