Nursery went transport spotting in the park

By Mr Robert Muntzer

Dear Parents and friends

Nursery went Transport spotting in the park - Written by Mrs Melissa Day, Nursery Teacher.  Our final Unit of Inquiry for this school year was, ‘How We Organise Ourselves’, and the central idea was ‘people use a variety of transportation systems to move around’.   We spent nine weeks learning all about transport, and wanted to get out and about to see people using it in their everyday lives. So, we walked across the road to spend the morning in the park.  We played hunt the transport pictures, and the traffic lights game, we drew pictures of cars, boats and aeroplanes, and we went transport spotting.   We chose 9 different forms of transportation to try and spot around the park, and set a timer for 9 minutes.  We found a public bus and a school bus, a car and a taxi, a bike and a motorbike, and we watched the metro travel by.  With just one minute left on our timer, we found a lorry carrying a heavy load, but there were no aeroplanes to be seen. We were about to admit defeat when there was a loud sound above and the military plane flew over or heads. We all let out a cheer, we had spotted nine forms of transportation in nine minutes. It was a hot morning, but we all had fun, playing games, sharing a picnic and collecting pine cones from the trees, which we decorated with crayons.

Hanova Hawks Perform Well in 7th Xi’an Football Tournament - Written by Mr Paul Robinson, Director of Sports.  On Saturday 21st May, Hanova hosted the 7th Xi’an International Schools Football Tournament on a FIFA standard football pitch. We were delighted to have XIS and XLIS visit us to compete.

After a very brave performance our Hawks went down 2-0 to a very strong XIS team in their first game. XIS went onto defeat XLIS meaning that the final game with XLIS left both teams needing a win to secure qualification for the final match.

In an outstanding team performance, the Hawks ran out 4-1 winners after a “braces” from Edan Hernandez-Day and Elijah Smith. This meant that the final game was set up against XIS. Despite going behind on 2 occasions the Hawks fought back to level the game thanks to Steven Jiang on both occasions. However, the efforts of the day took its’ toll on our very young squad and 2 late goals from XIS saw them run out 4-2 winners.

Congratulations to Vincent Gibbs and Elijah Smith who earned nominations for the all-star team but also a special mention to goalkeeper Noah Smith who pulled off some outstanding saves throughout the tournament. With such a young squad the footballing future at Hanova is potentially a very bright one!
