IB update from Hanova’s Multi-programme IB Evaluation team

Dear Parents and friends

A welcome and update from Hanova's IB Evaluation team.  Dear Parents and Members of Hanova School Community,

We are Hanova IB evaluation members comprised of the three programme coordinators, Grace (PYP Assistant Coordinator), Sandy (PYP Coordinator), Amy (MYP Coordinator), Sharon (DP Coordinator), and Chan (IB Evaluation Coordinator). We are glad to introduce our team and meet our school community via the second Newsletter of the new school year, 2022-2023. Next year in October our school is scheduled to go through Multi-Programme IB Evaluation, combining all of the three programmes altogether.

"The aim of IB programme evaluation is to support the school in continuously extending their capacity to implement and develop IB programmes to impact student outcomes through the development of teacher and leader practice." (Guide to programme evaluation, page 2).

Hanova's faculty members are collaborating to prepare the IB evaluation in order to make improvements in learning and teaching. Our goal is not only to complete the IB evaluation successfully, but strive for higher standards for our students.

We will keep you - our school community - regularly updated on the progress of the IB evaluation preparation through a variety of communication channels. Thanks for your continued support and have a great new school year!

The importance of natural environments - written by Mr Gary Wood, MYP Humanities.  In the first unit of MYP 2 Humanities class, students are looking at the importance of natural environments with a particular focus on biomes and ecosystems. In this lesson, students were inquiring about ways technological advances have allowed us to adapt to harsher climates.

The focus was on using simplified search terms and to record their findings onto paper. This year, I will be placing an emphasis on students using note taking skills as opposed to typing / copy and pasting, since pen to paper is an essential part of essay writing and test taking during the higher levels of the MYP and the DP.

Expressing yourself through play - written by Mrs Maria Gibbs, Reception Teacher.  Reception class has begun their Unit of Inquiry which is about expressing themselves through play. The students are learning about different types of play and have had the opportunity to express themselves through various forms of play in our classroom.

As we are getting to know one another, the children have enjoyed a ball toss name game as well as sharing pictures of their families with the class. Students have participated in artistic play as they have made decorative name signs and have painted with their favorite color.

Students have enjoyed using scales to decide which objects are heavier and lighter, and have also enjoyed a balloon toss counting game to learn to count and order numbers. These are just a few of the fun activities that students have participated in so far. Reception class is off to a great start!
