MYP Personal Project Exhibition 2024

Dear Parents and friends

MYP Personal Project - written by Ms Amy Hou, MYP Coordinator.  Congratulations to Hanova Year 11 students! The MYP Personal Project Exhibition on March 8th was a big success for them!

The Personal Project in Year 11 is an opportunity for MYP students to make something that reflects the attitude to learning that they have developed throughout the MYP. This makes the Personal Project Exhibition the culminating experience of the MYP.

In the exhibition this year, Hanova Year 11 students have developed various Personal Project initiatives including computer science, visual arts, education, social media, and black hole. All members in our school community were invited to this exhibition to celebrate their success. Please enjoy some of the great pictures from the exhibition!

Hanova PYP Boys Basketball at KCIS - written by Coach Cristian Felice.  The boys fought well and rotated to keep fresh legs on the court. With a combination of new and returning players, Hanova held their own and kept their composure throughout the game. They worked hard to eliminate fast break opportunities and battle a much larger team. The game finished as a loss 11-19, but served as a valuable learning opportunity for the team. The boys will play a home game this Saturday, March 16 at 9:00.

Year 7 Humanities - Developing Inquiry Skills to Explore Ancient Civilisations - written by Mr John McGovern & Ms Sandra Gerrits, MYP Humanities.  This unit, the Year 7 students have been learning about a variety of ancient civilisations through the concept of time, place and space - when was it, where was it, and what kind of society, culture and economy did it have. Through looking at the examples of Sumeria and Ancient Egypt in class, they have developed their investigation skills in finding out on their own about other civilisations such as Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Incan civilisation and the Mayan civilisations.

For the summative assessment, students are displaying their knowledge and understanding (Criterion A) of content and concepts and their investigative skills (Criterion B), by creating their own inquiry questions, working to an action plan and evaluating their overall work through reflection.

They are displaying their learning through curating a museum exhibition about a civilisation they are curious about. Some students extended their learning to explore other examples by looking at the Shang and Han dynasties of China, as well as the Carthaginian Empire and the Indus Valley civilisation. In MYP Humanities we are creating a learning environment to suit the students' needs and develop their inquiry skills in line with the IB guidelines. All parents will be welcome to see the display during on the 26th March at the MYP Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences, and here are some photos of the work in progress!

Navigating the Path to Higher Education: Year 12 Students Begin University Application Journey - written by Ms Sharon Zhu, DP Coordinator.  With the start of the new academic year, Year 12 students embarked on an exciting journey towards higher education as they attended their first group meeting to kick off the university application process. Led by two of our experienced university counselors at Hanova, Ms Sharon and Ms Jane, the session served as a crucial milestone in guiding students through this transformative phase.

During the meeting, both students and counselors established a common understanding of the responsibilities inherent in the university application process. It was emphasized that while counselors would provide guidance and support, students must actively engage in the process, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to school policies and deadlines.

A key component of the meeting involved a review of school policies and practices related to university applications. Students were reminded of the importance of following protocol, from transcript requests to essay submissions. This served as a valuable opportunity to refresh students' memories and ensure alignment with school procedures.

In addition to discussing policies, students eagerly shared their initial interests and aspirations regarding potential countries for universities. Our students expressed a diverse range of preferences reflective of their academic ambitions and personal goals.

Looking ahead, Year 12 students can expect ongoing support and guidance from the counseling team, comprised of the IB Diploma Coordinator Ms.Sharon and Ms. Jane. Throughout the coming months, various formats such as group meetings, informational sessions, and one-on-one consultations will be utilized to assist students in navigating the university application process.

As Year 12 students embark on this transformative journey, they can rest assured knowing that they have the support and guidance of the counseling team every step of the way. With dedication and perseverance, they are well-equipped to realize their aspirations and embark on a path of academic success and personal growth.
