ACAMIS Football Silver Legends

Dear Parents and friends

ACAMIS Football Silver Legends. Last week, the U19 boys football team competed in their first-ever ACAMIS tournament in Beijing. The opening day was a learning curve as they struggled in a tough group, losing all their seeding games—setting up a quarter-final clash the next day with local favorites BIBA. Rising to the challenge, the team applied their lessons brilliantly, securing a 1–0 win with a late goal by Akemi from Will's assist, following a strong defensive display and key saves from goalkeeper Xenne.

In the semifinal, the Hawks faced SUIS (Shanghai), who are regular Silver Legends finalists. After conceding a header from a perfect cross, Captain Noah equalized in the second half with a determined push from center back. The match went into extra time, with Will and John working tirelessly in midfield and Aster and Jason growing in confidence, making bold runs from defense. One of Jason’s shots led to a corner, and from Akemi’s low cross, Noah sealed a heroic performance with the winning goal.

With the crowd behind them, the Hawks’ underdog story captured everyone’s imagination. Though they lost the final to a deserving SWIS (Shenzhen), Noah and Akemi made the All-Star Team, and the Hawks earned the ACAMIS Spirit Award—a testament to the passion and joy they brought to the tournament.

Congratulations to the entire U19 team: Xenne, Aster, Jason, Will, John, Noah, Akemi Abylaikhan, Young, James, Andrew, Minchan. Thank you Coach Daniel and Coach Sam!

Earth Day Charity Fun Run - written by Year 3.  During our UOI about growth, we planned, organized and prepared the Hanova Earth Day Charity Fun Run event to raise money for Earth Day and future projects.

To prepare for the Charity Fun Run, Year 3 made posters and placed them around the Primary School building. We measured the track and Hawk's Court and checked the temperature daily. Although we felt nervous, we spoke to the Early Years and Upper Years students to give information about the event. We moved and set up tables, chairs and cones to the football pitch and Hawk's Court. We also made and stuck house signs on each table.

During the event, students ran, jogged or walked around the track as many times as possible for 30 minutes. Each lap was worth 10 RMB. Each lap was recorded and also counted towards house points. Everyone tried their best! As of now, we have raised 16,940 RMB!

We did the Earth Day Charity Run to buy trees for Hanova. Trees are important because they give us fresh air and oxygen. On our Earth some people chop down trees, so we need to add more trees. The more trees we have, the more living things and colors we have to make Hanova beautiful and have more chances to sit and learn outside. Sometimes we have indoor play because of air pollution and this can help decrease the air pollution too.

Thanks for all Year 3 students’ cooperation, we really enjoyed the day. Thank you to all the runners and their parents for sponsoring us. Please remember to take care of the trees because they are important to our environment.

Stay tuned for more Earth Day activities happening at Hanova next Tuesday, April 22!

About our School Principal

Dr Lucas J. Roberts

School Principal

Dr Lucas J. Roberts is the current School Principal at Hanova. He thoroughly enjoys being part of the Hanova Hawks community! Having served in international school education in China for over 15 years in Wuxi, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Beijing, being in Xi’an with his family to lead Hanova is indeed a joy and a privilege. “Mr. Luke,” as students call him, has served in numerous leadership capacities over the years, including Head of Primary, Head of Secondary, and School Principal/Head of School. Since 2014, he has served on nearly 20 WASC accreditation visiting committees around Asia to support other schools’ ongoing school improvement efforts, giving him substantial perspective on the international school world. Earning a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies helped spark Dr. Roberts’ belief that learning, rather than being isolated, should help students see patterns and connections across subjects with an emphasis on life skills and application. In other words, what we DO with knowledge is just as important as having knowledge, much in line with the IB Learner Profile and Hanova’s mission to develop responsible, wise, lifelong learners. Dr. Roberts earned an M.Ed. in Educational Administration and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, and he is a researcher, author, and conference speaker on a range of topics in education.
