Author Visit Sparks Imagination at Hanova! - written by Ms Lydia Song. Hanova was buzzing with excitement last Friday as we welcomed the wonderfully talented Kev Payne, a celebrated author and illustrator, for a special visit!
Kev brought his boundless creativity and infectious energy to every corner of our library, inspiring students from Nursery to Year 8 with a series of interactive and laughter-filled sessions. From zombies and animals to Greek mythology, Kev used a wide range of fun and imaginative topics to teach our students about poetry, storytelling, and the art of illustration. Each session was tailored to the age group, ensuring that every student, no matter how young or old, was actively engaged and learning in a way that felt like pure fun.
Waves of giggles, gasps of wonder, and endless questions arose throughout the day as students dove into their imaginations. Kev's visit reminded us all that storytelling is not only about writing—it’s about expressing ideas, asking questions, and seeing the world with curiosity and wonder.
We are incredibly grateful to Kev Payne for bringing his stories to Hanova. Thank you, Kev, for an unforgettable visit!

Year 7s Step Up as Teachers in Primary School Maths Collaboration - written by Mr Greg Chmielinski. On Wednesday, a group of 14 enthusiastic Year 7 maths students took on the role of teachers in a special cross-school project with our primary school students. Each Year 7 student was paired with a Year 6 pupil for a one-on-one session focused on foundational algebra skills.
Leading up to the event, the secondary school students prepared their own mini-lessons covering key algebra topics such as solving equations and inequalities, collecting like terms, expanding brackets, and factorising. They were also trained to carry out a quick-fire assessment at the beginning of their session in order to tailor their lesson to the individual needs of their younger partner.
The result was a vibrant, hands-on learning environment where every student—both teacher and learner—was actively engaged. The collaboration was a resounding success, with both Year 7 and Year 6 students showing confidence, adaptability, and a shared enthusiasm for mathematics. It was fantastic to see such initiative, leadership, and teamwork from our students, and the feedback from the primary school was overwhelmingly positive.
This project not only strengthened mathematical understanding on both sides, but also built communication and mentoring skills in a meaningful and memorable way. A brilliant example of student-led learning in action!
