MYP/DP School–Family Partnership

Dear Parents and friends

MYP/DP School–Family Partnership.  On April 8th, Hanova hosted our Spring Parent-Teacher Student Conferences (PTSC) in the Secondary School aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of each child’s academic progress. This event provided a valuable opportunity for parents to engage directly with teachers and discuss their child's strengths, challenges, and areas for growth. By facilitating open lines of communication, PTSCs create a collaborative environment where parents and educators can work together to support the students' educational journeys. We were pleased to see so many parents actively participating and taking advantage of this opportunity to gain insights into their child's learning and development!

In conjunction with the PTSCs, our MYP Coordinator led an information session focused on the importance of upholding academic integrity and using artificial intelligence ethically. This session addressed the school policies on Academic Integrity, ethical use of artificial intelligence, and how both the school and parents can play crucial roles in guiding students through the complexities of modern learning tools. Parents gained insights for fostering a culture of honesty and responsibility in academic work, ensuring that students understand the significance of integrity in their studies.

Hanova’s DP Coordinator also shared updates on the progress of the DP digital exams and introduced the IB assessment framework to help parents better understand the components of IB assessment. The session also covered important details about the upcoming May 2025 (M25) IB exams, including the revision week plan designed to support students’ preparation. Additionally, our Learning Support Coordinator provided valuable insights into supporting students' emotional health and well-being, particularly during exam periods. Parents were given practical strategies to help their children manage stress and maintain balance throughout this important academic milestone.

Finally by invitation, this Friday from 14:30–15:30, we will host the DP Subject Introduction Assembly in the auditorium. The DP team and students will showcase learning experiences in the Diploma Programme at Hanova, offering MYP students and parents a vivid insight into DP subjects and what to expect in their future academic journey. We cordially welcome interested parents to join!

Exciting Author Visit at Hanova – Mark Your Calendars!  We are thrilled to announce that Kev Payne will visit our school on April 18th! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with an author, gain insights into the creative writing process, and be inspired by his literary journey.

During the visit, Kev will be hosting interactive sessions with different topics to different year levels, including writing workshops and performance, where students can also ask questions about writing and storytelling.

Let’s get ready for an inspiring visit!

Author’s biography:

Kev Payne grew up with a love of books, comics and cartoons which inspired him to draw. Someone once told him that he sees life as a cartoon and that is pretty ok with Kev. His artwork always starts with his sketchpad before moving on to digital and his studio is filled with sketches, colours and coffee. He loves bringing ideas to life and, as a former primary school teacher, has a keen interest in educational ideas.

About our School Principal

Dr Lucas J. Roberts

School Principal

Dr Lucas J. Roberts is the current School Principal at Hanova. He thoroughly enjoys being part of the Hanova Hawks community! Having served in international school education in China for over 15 years in Wuxi, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Beijing, being in Xi’an with his family to lead Hanova is indeed a joy and a privilege. “Mr. Luke,” as students call him, has served in numerous leadership capacities over the years, including Head of Primary, Head of Secondary, and School Principal/Head of School. Since 2014, he has served on nearly 20 WASC accreditation visiting committees around Asia to support other schools’ ongoing school improvement efforts, giving him substantial perspective on the international school world. Earning a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies helped spark Dr. Roberts’ belief that learning, rather than being isolated, should help students see patterns and connections across subjects with an emphasis on life skills and application. In other words, what we DO with knowledge is just as important as having knowledge, much in line with the IB Learner Profile and Hanova’s mission to develop responsible, wise, lifelong learners. Dr. Roberts earned an M.Ed. in Educational Administration and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, and he is a researcher, author, and conference speaker on a range of topics in education.
