Bookmaking in Year 2 - written by Mr Graeme Noble. In Year 2, bookmaking serves as a dynamic tool to enhance writing skills and deepen students' engagement with inquiry-based learning. Our emphasis on fostering improved writing abilities is intertwined with the principles of choice and agency, allowing Year 2 students to explore various styles, genres, and content in their book creations. By connecting their stories to units of inquiry, students not only develop their narrative skills but also reinforce their understanding of key concepts across subjects.
This creative process encourages them to express their individuality and interests, making their writing purposeful and meaningful. As students share their books through readings and displays, they experience the joy of authentic audience engagement, further motivating their writing endeavors. The work produced during this initiative reflects their innovative thinking and personal connections, reinforcing the vital link between inquiry and effective writing.
Chanba Trophy Hosted at Hanova. Last Saturday, Hanova hosted the annual U14 Chanba Trophy football tournament, bringing together Xi’an’s international school community once again for competition, community, and character-building. Thanks to XIS, XLIS, DEXA, and KCIS for contributing to make this another wonderful experience for our students, coaches, and spectators.
U14 Boys Soccer - written by Mr Sam Quan & Mr Shaun Guffey. Throughout the whole season since February, our U14 boys showed their dedication and effort in every training and game. With the end of the Chanba trophy tournament, the season of our U14 boys soccer has also come to an end. Our Green and Red teams played hard in the tournament, and the Green team ended up taking 3rd place. Our Green and Red teams were also combined winners of the Sportsmanship award—well done both teams!
U14 Girls Soccer - written by Mr Sam Quan & Ms Isabel Helberg. Our U14 girls highlighted the team's impressive growth during this season. They showed incredible teamwork and determination. The championship game ended in a tense 1-1 draw but, in the penalty shootout, our goalkeeper saved most attempts, helping to secure the trophy for the Lady Hawks. We’re very proud of their spirit and perseverance!
