The HPTA has already been busy supporting our teachers and students over the past two weeks. September 9 was the first official HPTA meeting where the committee reconnected and began planning their involvement with our upcoming Sports Day. The next day, September 10, many HPTA members returned to campus to express their gratitude for Hanova’s educators on Teacher’s Day. Coupled with our superb canteen staff’s delicious desserts, Bubble Tea for all staff made for a well-received Teacher’s Day at Hanova!
This week the committee again met informally to finalize parent involvement on Sports Day, September 26. In short, parents are voluntarily donating 30RMB for their child(ren), the donations of which go to purchasing ice cream and fruit for Sports Day. Donations are made according to their child(ren)’s House—Han, Qin, Song, Tang—creating widespread parental participation and healthy competition for Sports Day well in advance of the big day. We’re extremely grateful to our HPTA, led by Mrs. Lee, for sparking such excitement and championing our school community! Let’s go ALL Hawks!

Celebrating Family & Culture in Year 1b - written by Ms Julia Branch.Year 1b kicked off our Family & Culture Sharing Series with a special classroom visit from Zizo’s mother. She came to share stories about her family and culture, sparking curiosity and excitement among the children.
The session gave students a chance to explore the IB Learner Profile in action. They saw what it means to be a Risk-Taker, as Zizo’s mom spoke with confidence to the group. They experienced Caring, as she gave her time to enrich their learning. And they strengthened their sense of Connection, discovering how families and cultures shape who we are while also uniting us as a community.
Students listened attentively, asked thoughtful questions, and made links to their own family experiences. They learned that every family has unique traditions, and that by sharing these stories, we can celebrate differences while also finding common ground.
The activity highlighted how learning goes beyond books and classrooms—it also comes from the people and relationships around us. This visit helped students deepen their inquiry into “Who We Are” and inspired them to think about their own family stories in new ways.
