Embracing the Future: Secondary Teachers Explore AI in Education - written by Ms Amy Hou. Last week, our Secondary school teachers embarked on an inspiring two-day professional development journey, diving into the evolving world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. On March 6th and 7th, our teachers participated in a dynamic workshop focused on gaining an overview of AI's role in teaching, learning, and assessment. The sessions were designed to be highly practical, moving beyond theory to explore a range of AI tools that can be integrated into the classroom. Our teachers actively experimented with these technologies, learning not just how to use them, but how to partner with them to create more engaging learning experiences, differentiate instruction, and provide innovative support for our diverse students.
A central theme of the workshop was the thoughtful and ethical integration of AI to enhance, rather than replace, the human elements of an IB education. We engaged in rich, reflective discussions on how AI can be a collaborative partner in the learning process—from generating authentic assessment ideas and providing timely feedback to helping students become responsible and discerning users of technology themselves. We are incredibly grateful to our IB workshop leader, Declan Chen, for facilitating such a thought-provoking and informative two days. His expertise guided us in navigating both the exciting possibilities and the important considerations of this technology, leaving our staff more empowered and better prepared to guide our students in an increasingly digital world.
