Soul, Skill, and Joy: Special Visit by the Consul General of the Republic of Korea. Last week Hanova was honored to receive distinguished delegates from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Xi’an: Consul General Mr. Lee Kwangho, Consuls Mr. Chon Junsouk and Mr. Kim Sungjin, and Administrative Officer Mr. Kim Hohyun.
After meeting with members of the school’s leadership, Mr. Lee presented an informative and engaging lecture to Hanova’s Year 5 to Year 13 student body about the meaning and importance of diplomacy, as well as his decades of experience as a diplomat in Afghanistan, America, Canada, China, Europe, and Iraq. His presentation left students and staff with three key ideas for living a meaningful life: caring for one’s soul; developing a skill that sets one apart as a person or professional; and living a joyful life.
During the Q&A session, students inundated Mr. Lee with so many questions that the time had to be cut short—the true measure of an impactful lecture!
After the lecture, the delegates shared lunch together with a small group of students and staff, making for great connections on a closer level with our students who shared about life and learning at Hanova and their aspirations for the future.
Finally, the visit concluded with a tour of the school’s facilities. Mr. Lee noted the safe, clean environment of Hanova, from the classrooms, hallways, libraries, canteens, dormitory, and athletic facilities to the Korean School of Xi’an, now located at Hanova. Mr. Lee charged our school leadership to continue with care and dedication to the wellbeing of all of Hanova’s students.
Hanova’s school Board and leadership would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Lee, Mr. Chon, Mr. Kim Sungjin, and Mr. Kim Hohyun for their time and for motivating our students as we kick off Hanova’s 15th year of inspiring lifelong learning!
Kickstarting the School Year: The School-Home Partnership. Since the start of the new school year on August 17, Hanova teachers and staff have been busy reconnecting with our wonderful students and getting to know our dozens of new students! We’ve also been reconnecting with our parent community, ensuring we start the year off right by having lots of facetime, communicating important information, hearing questions and concerns, and emphasizing the value and priority of a strong school – home partnership.
The PYP kicked off the school year with our recent Meet the Teacher event where parents/guardians got to know a bit more about homeroom teachers, what to expect in a new school year around the curriculum and timetables, and more.
The PYP also held an information session about Toddle, helping new and even returning families navigate the Toddle Family App to stay up-to-date about the goings-on in their child(ren)’s education. Toddle is the primary way we communicate in the PYP, and we encourage all families to use/check it daily for communicating absences to asking questions about homework and more.
The Secondary also held two back-to-back parent information sessions last week around the ever-important matter of assessment in the MYP and DP, bringing up topics that are inevitably on students’ and parents’/guardians’ minds, especially as students progress through each programme into more challenging subjects and tasks. In the Secondary, communication occurs via ManageBac and/or email, so we encourage all students and parents/guardians to check these platforms daily.
Finally, a new school year means wonderful support, idea-sharing, and engagement with and from our Hanova Parent-Teacher Association (HPTA). We have a few openings for the role of Parent Liaison for a 1- to 2-year term; please reach out to express your interest in joining the HPTA at HanovaPrincipalOffice@his-xian.com.
