Hanova's School Campus
Hanova opened its new Chanba Ecological District campus in August 2021. The campus is located in the Northeast corner of Xi’an, just 30 minutes from the Bell and Drum Towers at city center and just south of Xi'an's well-known Expo Park.
Xi’an’s Chanba Ecological District is a beautiful part of the city – with two converging rivers creating a peninsula just north of the school campus. Running and bike trails along the river and plenty of parks near the school make it an ideal part of the city in which to work and live.
A campus that accommodates a growing student body
Xi’an Hanova International School officially began in August 2012 at its first campus on Xi’an’s West third ring road. The school successfully completed 9 academic years at the old campus before moving to Chanba in 2021. While the original campus was sufficient to meet the needs of our students and staff through its early years, the new campus has been built to accommodate a much larger, growing student body and school community! We have been continually excited about all the ways that the Chanba campus is enabling us to meet the learning needs of our students.

Introduction
On March 19, 2024, I visited our schools Ground Source Heat Pump System with Mr Kevin and Ms Shirley. This is a system where we use water to heat our school. There are two parts of this system, one is the outdoor water cycle, the other one is the indoor cycle. This system is under the soccer field, there are 600 wells under the soccer field. It has the use of bringing the outside temperature to the underground.
Water System
When the water takes the outside temperature it goes down into the underground. The water first enters the storage, this is where the new water is stored. After, the water moves into the pump. This is where we increase the water level so it comes into the temperature exchange center. The water in the indoor cycle changes temperature with the outside cycle. That is because the underground temperature is stable so it can exchange temperature with the unstable one outside. So that is why we have a comfortable learning space.
In the outdoor water cycle, there is one water storage system, one water pump, and a copper layered temperature exchange center in the middle of the two cycles. The indoor cycle only has one pump to increase the water level. There is a water storage for us to use as well.
This is a very sustainable and clean system. Building this system caused a lot of investment, but the longer we use it, the more we save. The only part where we use energy is the two water pumps.
