Upcoming Sports Day on 2nd May

By Mr Martin Hughes

Dear Parents and

Hanova Diploma Scholarships for Year 12, 2014-2015. Hanova is committed to academic excellence and the optimal achievement of all its students. We are excited to announce that the Board of Governors has agreed to offer a scholarship scheme for students joining Year 12 next academic year.

This scheme aims to enable all-round brilliant students to get access to high quality international education by providing financial aid. This is available for students seeking admission into Year 12, who are highly meritorious but who may have financial constraints. The Board of Governors at Hanova is committed to sponsor the education of up to five meritorious students for the Hanova Diploma programme (Years 12 & 13) who are outstanding in their overall (academic and co-curricular) performance and who would like to continue studies at Hanova. This scholarship scheme is available to current Hanova students in Year 11 and applicants new to the school.

Parents and students currently in Hanova’s Year 11 and external applicants may apply for this scholarship opportunity. More information will be released in next week’s newsletter.

Sports day. With fine weather forecast for Friday 2nd May, Sports Day will be going ahead.   A dedicated team of teachers have been busily preparing for what we envision to be a day full of excitement, students striving to display their best in a spirit of good sporting conduct, and where the community can gather together to celebrate athletic achievement. The venue for all events will be on the school playing fields, tennis court and running track. There will be a Junior and a Senior schedule of events.

Juniors, comprising of students from Nursery to Year 3, will commence their events at 9:00 am and will conclude at approximately 10:30 am.  Junior students will be competing in six fun events: 50 metre sprint, potato/spoon race, sack race, tennis ball throwing, frisbee throwing and long jump. Please refer to the timetable attached with this letter. At approximately 10.30 am our junior students will return back to their classrooms and will undertake regular lessons. Parents of junior students are most welcome to remain at the school and watch the senior student participate in their various events.  However, we ask all parents not to visit the junior classrooms between 10:30 am and 2:00 pm as normal lessons will be taking place and teachers require that all students are settled and fully focused.

Seniors, comprising of students from Year 4 to Year 13, will commence their events at 9:00 am and will conclude at approximately 2:00 pm. Senior students will be competing in six events: 80 metre sprint, relay, high jump, long jump, tennis ball throwing or discus and a 160 metre shuttle run. Please refer to the timetable shown attached with this letter.

To conclude the day at approximately 2:15 pm, medals will be presented by the sports teachers to students who have come first, second and third for all events, with the exception of the relays, where only the winning team will be awarded a medal.  Mr Whitworth will be presenting junior students their medals, Mr Jessurun will be presenting Year 4 – 6 students their medals and Mr McKeown will be presenting secondary students their medals. As a special treat, ice-creams will be distributed to students during the afternoon. If time permits, the secondary school football team will play a short demonstration match in front of all students. All parents are most welcome to bring along food and to support the athletic performances of the students.  Please do take part by encouraging students from the sidelines of all events.  Please refrain from standing in the middle of a particular event!

We look forward to your welcoming you this coming Friday.
