International Baccalaureate (IB) Workshop Leader. We are pleased to tell you that Mr Kennedy Bwanga, our IT teacher, and our Pamoja leader, from when we start running the full IB Diploma Programme planned for August 2015, has been invited again to lead on aspects related to IB. He has been asked to be a Workshop Leader in the Asia Pacific region for training teachers on delivering the Theory of Knowledge component to IB DP students. He has also been asked to continue to be an online teacher for the IB Pamoja for Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS). Pamoja Education is the only IB approved online course provider. We are very pleased to have our staff represented as leaders in the IB’s community of schools. Obviously Kennedy expands his learning in such contexts and will bring this updated knowledge to benefit our students and school community
Parent consultations – 2 and 3 way conferences. Please remember the dates of the forthcoming Parent Consultations are 21st (3:45-7pm) and 22nd (3:45-5pm) October. Parents of Secondary school students will have the chance to read the outcomes of the meetings that the students had with their CAS advisers before the consultations. This will help focus the discussions.
The Primary school staff are keen to be able to focus more clearly on each student. They will meet with parents over a more extended period (Monday, 20th to Thursday, 23rd October) rather than the previous back to back meetings over two days, some of which was in school time. The former system was good whilst the school was small, but creates logistical difficulties with larger numbers. This reduced the teacher’s capacity to focus on each consultation. You should receive a form with booking options this week. There will also be more detail concerning what can be covered in these 2 and 3 way conferences. Specialists will be available at all these times if you wish to see any of them. We do not intend to book times for specialists, only for homeroom teachers in the Primary. Siblings will be booked in on the same day.
Primary English Acquisition Support and Extension (EASE). The EASE programme led by Ronna Fraser and Judy Lai has started this week. This is focused on support generally from Y2 to Y6. The reasons for this focus were explained in the Newsletter just before the October break. More information will be sent to parents of individual students that may at times be withdrawn from classes. All students in Y2-6 benefit from the additional differentiation that students with differing levels of English are getting. If you wish to receive more information on this programme please contact us through the liaison manager april.hu@his-xian.com in the first instance.
Best regards,
Martin Hughes
