By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

Our school community continues to grow: we continue to expand our activities, while this week we welcome 8 new students and their families to the Hanova family. These newcomers enter classes between Nursery and Y7. We will do our best to help them settle quickly into their new school and we hope they will not only enjoy their time here, but also achieve well in all aspects of their learning and growth.

Information Session. On Wednesday 2nd March, Mr. Meadham, our Diploma Programme Coordinator, organized a presentation to dedicated to Year 11 students and their parents. The session was designed to inform them of the subjects available for next year’s Diploma Programme in our school. Heads of Faculty and other DP teachers made a series of presentations describing the courses on offer, possible university and career paths and requirements. This event was is very important, to align the final high school studies to the future university interests. For this reason, Mr. Meadham (marcus.meadham@his-xian.com) will be repeat this information session just after the Spring Break.

International Award. I’m also delighted to inform you that our School is now a licensed centre for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the world’s leading achievement award for young people, which brings together practical experiences and life skills to create committed global citizens and equipping young people for life. The Award is a non-competitive, enjoyable, voluntary and balanced programme, which requires sustained effort over time and is open to all young people aged 14-24, regardless of their background. This non-formal educational framework can complement the activities in the classroom, enabling students to demonstrate self-development within an internationally recognised framework. The programme comprises three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold - each progressively more challenging – and four Sections: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey – including a Residential Project at Gold level. We will inform parents and students in due time on how to benefit. To Participant in such activity with the relevant result will surely bring additional benefit for our students when they apply for universities.

Board Game. Under the guidance of Mr Trull, Mr Bradburry and Mr Bonke the Game Day students are making great progress on their gaming table.
