We are now progressing in our First Semester of school, and you will soon receive more information about the additional activities that will complement the students’ learning beyond the classroom.
University Admissions – Class of 2017. Our students’ academic and extra-curricular achievements are reflected by their outstanding IB Diploma exam scores at the end of last year, in the offers they have received from several of the world’s top ranked universities and in the final acceptances and scholarships secured.
In particular, the rigorous preparation of our students, supported by university guidance from our school, is now helping our students to enter top universities in the Republic of Korea, in Asia from Greater China to Singapore, in Europe and especially in the United Kingdom, and in North America both in the USA and Canada.
Some Hanova Alumni are already studying at excellent Chinese Universities like Beijing University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Fudan University.
This year, some of our graduating students were accepted also at top ranked universities like Yonsei University, KyungHee University and Sungkyunkwan University in the Republic of Korea; Hong Kong University in China; University of Edinburgh, University of Warwick and University College London in the United Kingdom.
We will continue to expand the list of top universities accepting our alumni around the world, in recognition of the coordinated effort made by Hanova’s community: students, parents and staff.
Secondary News. The first three weeks of school have been very busy for everyone concerned with the IB DP for 2017-18: teachers, students and parents.
The DP Induction for Year 12 involved workshops, information sessions, CAS activities and sample subject classes during the first week. The students concerned were informed about the Assessment and Reporting Policy and learned about how they would be assessed in their chosen subjects and the core components. They also had workshops on the Academic Honesty Policy, where they were reminded how to avoid academic misconduct when they undertook assessment components.
Students in Years 12 and 13 will introduce and review their CAS programmes in combined sessions, and they had a constructive week completing their CAS reflections on Managebac. This ultimately led to a very enjoyable CAS Challenge for all Secondary School students where they had to complete a timed series of physical challenges. It was a fun Friday afternoon and the Years 12 and 13 students did a great job of organizing the whole event.
With less than eight months until their final examinations, our Year 13 students undertake review sessions on their Extended Essay to ensure they complete this core component by Christmas 2017.
Finally, some changes have been introduced in our DP programme this year, which will be released to parents during the next few weeks. And from now on, information and communications with parents will increasingly take place via Managebac, thus we encourage parents to log in regularly and an information session on Managebac is being arranged for new and existing DP parents.
For any questions related to the DP activities, please contact directly our DP Coordinator Mr. Muntzer ( robert.muntzer@his-xian.com ).
Primary News. Primary School will hold weekly information sessions for parents every Wednesday after 3pm. A provisional list of sessions in available and will confirmed to parents during the next few weeks.
Sport Teams – Basketball. As you may know, Hanova has created sport teams both in Primary and in Secondary, to provide training and competition opportunities to our students.
In particular, Hanova’s basketball squad has achieved great results in the last tournament season: our Hanova Heroes have won 6 of 7 competing matches among the international schools in Xi’an.
Now it’s time to prepare our school for future competitions: both students and teachers are increasing their efforts and we also need more players in the team.
This year, the school will provide coaching of the Secondary Basketball Program to students from Year 7 to Year 13 under the supervision of Mr. Chris Chao and Mr. Ryan Morgan on Tuesdays after school, from 4:00pm – 5:00pm.
Please keep in mind that the school does not provide the transportation after the club training. Parents will have to arrange transportation or pick up their children at the end of every training session, informing the School accordingly.
Joining in the basketball club will give Secondary students a comfortable opportunity to practice sport and develop new skills while working in a team towards a common goal. The club program is also developing independence, leadership and responsibility. Besides, a positive attitude, passion, teamwork, individual techniques and tactical consciousness are what we appreciate and encourage from players. Students involved in the Basketball Team will have to show strong commitment, attend all the training sessions and be responsible as being part of the squad. For more information contact Mr. Chao ( chris.chao@his-xian.com ).
Art Competition. The Little Star, a magazine representing international schools in China, is hosting an art competition open to current students at international and leading bilingual schools in China and around the world. Contestants will compete in five age groups: Group I: 6 years old and under; Group II: 7-9 years old; Group III: 10-12 years old; Group IV: 13-15 years old; Group V: 16-19 years old.
Students are encouraged to participate, and can obtain more information on the entry requirements from our PYP Art Teacher, Mr. Trull ( dylan.trull@his-xian.com ), who is ready to provide supervision when needed. Please note that the deadline for entry submission is September 30 2017.
Thanks again for your continuing support.
Yours,
Francesco Masetti-Placci
