Year 10 Science Biology experiments

Dear Parents and friends

Year 10 Science Biology experiments - Written by Mr Russell Glavey, MYP Science.  As part of their unit on Biology: Relationships, Form and Function students had the opportunity to prepare and scientifically observe some slides of animal and plant cells. Along the way they learned proper use of the microscope, slide preparation and practiced lab safety skills. Students also had the opportunity to perform a first experiment to measure the energy content of food. Students will go on to study cell organelles form and function and the relationships between energy production, storage and utilisation.

The experiments gave students the opportunity to practice the IB Learner Profile attribute of Communicator as they collaborated effectively to conduct their experiments in a timely manner and the ATL skill of critical thinking as they thought about how to improve upon their initial experiment.

MYP Personal Project Session in Collaboration Meeting Time - Written by Ms Amy Hou, MYP Coordinator,  On August 30th, all MYP teachers at Hanova worked together to share their understanding of one major component in MYP – Personal Project. Teachers were divided into 5 groups. Each group was asked to draw a picture or a graph to demonstrate their understanding of the key elements in Personal Project, such as learning goal, ATL skills, reflection, global context, process journal and so on. Through this meeting, our teachers have reflected and shared their ideas and experiences in supporting students in Personal Project at Hanova.

MAP Test for MYP Students - Written by Ms Lydia Song, MYP Librarian.  Last week, MYP students, from Y7 to Y9, were given the first online MAP Growth Test(Reading-Language Arts)in this academic year.

The NWEA MAP Growth Test is an examination designed to track students' individual academic progress. From this test, it is not only good for students to know how much they have learned in English reading, but also helpful for English teachers to grasp strengths and weaknesses of each student through some scientific reports generated from the test.

MAP test reports also serve as an essential guide for teachers to differentiate their teaching plan, allowing every student to have the most suitable learning experience.

Happy Teacher’s Day! - Ms Alina Zheng & Ms Rae Zhang, Y10 & Y11 Chinese Acquisition.  ‘Till the end of life, a silk worm keeps spinning silk. Till burning itself out a candle goes on lighting us.’    - Tang Li Shangyin

Some people say that the teacher is a spring silkworm, while others say that the teacher is a red candle. Teachers work hard in their positions and selflessly give of themselves. They point the way for children with patient teaching and guidance. September 10th is China's Teacher's Day every year. Students from Y10 and 11 Chinese Acquisition made bilingual Chinese and English cards for Secondary school teachers. They sincerely thank all teachers for their hard work and dedication. Happy Teacher's Day!
