MYP Arts Assembly 2024

On Friday, June 7th, the Hanova Secondary Arts Assembly was a vibrant showcase of the incredible talents of our students. It was a pleasure to witness the involvement of all year levels, from Year 7 through to Year 12, coming together to present an afternoon filled with artistic excellence and community spirit.

Our event was kicked off by Year 7B students acting as MCs. The first performance was a heartfelt duet by Year 12 students Samantha and Tony, who performed “One Last Kiss” with an artistic blend of piano and drums.

Year 11 student Mani then captivated us with a violin performance of “Toreador” from Carmen, accompanied by Mr. Long Chen on piano. This was followed by a thought-provoking play titled “The Phone 2.0: The Next Generation,” performed by our Year 8, Year 10, and Year 11 drama students. This vignette play, co-directed by Riley (Y10) and Madison (Y11), humorously explored our modern relationship with technology.

The assembly continued with a music medley by Year 10 and Year 11 music students, showcasing their skill through popular and classic tunes. This was followed by an electrifying performance titled “Tek It” by the Year 10 Extra Music class.

Year 8 students then brought their own style to a beloved classic with a performance of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” followed by Year 7 students performing “Ju Hua Tai,” a beautiful representation of traditional Chinese music and culture.

We were also treated to creative and well-produced music videos by our Year 9 students, who showcased their skills in using GarageBand for basic arrangement work, adding various instruments and harmonies, and experimenting with effects to enhance their compositions.

The grand finale was the Secondary Ensemble’s high-energy performance of the “Mission Impossible Theme Tune,” which left us all on the edge of our seats. It was an exhilarating way to end the show, demonstrating the hard work and dedication of our ensemble members.

Of course, a live show cannot succeed without the support of a hardworking team behind the scenes. Our lighting and backstage crew, composed of Year 8, 10, and 11 students, worked tirelessly to ensure that the entire event went off without a hitch.

A special thank you to Mr. Desmond, Mr. Ferdi, Ms. Krystal, Ms. Lily, and Ms. Sanaz for their support in creating a memorable Art Exhibition and Assembly, and to Ms. Mindy for her help with purchasing. Finally, we extend our gratitude to Ms. Jiang, Mr. Lee, the school board, and the PLT for their continued support of The Arts at Hanova.

Thank you to all the performers for sharing their talents with us and to everyone who came to support them. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the artistic talents within our community. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
