Second Board Game Day, 16th January

By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

Our second week in this new Semester, focusing on the academic and extra-curricular activities, while preparing for the celebrations before Chinese New Year.

Air Quality. This past week the air quality has improved. We continue anyway to apply our Air Quality policy, under development to ensure the well being of all our students and members of our school community.

Last week you were informed about our efforts. This week you have seen all the air purifiers arriving into the classrooms, a commitment to our students well being.

Mr. Hamkari. As you know, Hanova is an approved Cambridge School, allowed to deliver the IGCSE courses in addition to the IB Middle Years Programme. These courses take place essentially during Year 10 and Year 11. The school has now appointed Mr. Joseph Hamkari – who joined us as Head of Science and Middle Years Programme Coordinator - as also our IGCSE Coordinator.

Mr. Joseph Hamkari, a British national, majored in Biology and Science from University College of Wales and Christ Church College in his native UK. He has more than 20 years teaching experience in The Bahamas, Colombia, UK, Kazakhstan and Qatar being Head of Department for Sciences in a number of schools. He has 17 years of IB experience and is an IB Examiner and Moderator, as well as a workshop leader and a trained IB DP Consultant. He has many sporting interests and is a Scuba dive instructor.

Do not hesitate to contact Mr. Hamkari to continue the exchange of information on Middle Years Programme and the IGCSE courses and rest assured that we will support him to provide appropriate guidance to our Secondary students during this period.

Chinese New Year Celebrations. Our Chinese New Year organizing committee has been working hard to arrange the activities and performance to celebrate this important festival. The morning activities will be more devoted to Primary, while the afternoon more to Secondary. We welcome your participation for the show, and the respective teachers are preparing letters to inform you all and to ask for help where needed.

The Primary celebrations will involve several performances from our students and a show with outside guests. In Secondary there will be food preparations, a calligraphy competition and at the end we will watch and participate in a traditional Chinese Lion Dance. Parents are welcome to stay with us for all these events, so book the date of Friday 29th as an important day before the Holidays.

Board Game Day. Last year’s Board Game Day was a great success. This Saturday, 16th January, from 10:00 to 14:00, all Secondary School students are invited again to the school’s second Board Game Day. Come and enjoy your chance to play your favourite board game and learn how to paint Warhammer miniatures. Feel free to bring games, snacks and drinks for the day. For any information, please contact Mr. Bonke (chris.bonke@his-xian.com), who will ensure the organization and supervision of the day.

Upcoming Events. As we start the new Semester, we will announce new sessions to communicate with parents and students.

Upcoming events:

  • Second Hanova Game Day on Saturday 16th January, from 10:00am to 2:00pm
  • PYP reports will be sent to students and parents on 22nd January
  • Hanova Secondary Football team will compete at Xi’an High-Tech International School on 22nd January afternoon

Thanks again for your continuing support.

Yours,

Francesco Masetti-Placci
