At the end of this week we will break again to celebrate Lunar New Year, the most important holiday in China. This year we will welcome the Year of the Rooster.
According to tradition, people born in the year of the Rooster are hard working, courageous and smart. They also have a hunger for knowledge, are enthusiastic about their work and attentive to details, so much so that they can be considered an example by others. We definitely wish to all our students to develop these characteristics during the next year.
This year we had only small activities and celebrations in school, to recover some of the academic lessons lost due to the pollution issues. In any case I offer you all, on behalf of the school, the best wishes for the next Lunar New Year.
Hereafter, I write you some news for this past week.
University Applications. Hanova Secondary students receive extensive academic and university advice and support. We are fortunate to have an experienced leadership and counseling team, who are familiar with the application processes for different university admissions around the world.
Some international Hanova alumni are already attending excellent Universities in China and South Korea. And as our school is growing, each year our graduates are accepted to some of the best universities worldwide.
This year, we are proud to have received already several offers from universities worldwide, whilst our applications are still ongoing.
This year, our Y13 students have received offers from University of San Francisco, University of South Florida and University of South Carolina in the US, University of Warwick in the UK, University of Hong Kong and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in China. This is an impressive achievement for our Y13 students as the will become our first International Baccalaureate Diploma graduates.
Hanova would like to congratulate them and wish them every success in their future endeavours, while we wait for the additional outstanding offers that will for sure arrive during the next months.
Chinese New Year Celebrations. In the lead up to Chinese New Year our Primary classes last week were busy making dumplings, fans and dragons. The corridors were filled with the sound of drums and many children wore colorful Chinese traditional dress. It was a great celebration to bring in the Year of the Rooster!
Secondary students will celebrate the event on 26th January, with a house competition to set up a table full of imperial nibbles.
Air Quality Policy. You all know that our school has developed its own Air Quality Policy, with stringent requirements related to inclement weather and pollution level. To further our commitment to the welfare of our students we have equipped every room and common space in the school with air purifiers.
We have now also purchased an air pollution detector, which will be monitored alongside the website cited in our AQI policy. Please rest assured that your child(ren)’s welfare is our top priority. We will present this policy in one of our future meetings with parents and for additional information please contact our Athletic Director Mr. Lynn ( anthony.lynn@his-xian.com ).
Parent Information Sessions. Parent Information Sessions will be held every Wednesday from 3.30pm to 4.15pm both for Primary and Secondary parents, starting on February 8th. We want to improve the information and communication towards our community. Please see the proposed topics and confirm to Primary or Secondary office or to the Marketing and Liaison Team.
Students Reports. The First Semester students’ official reports have been issued for both Primary and Secondary students. For any additional information, please contact our Head of Primary School Mrs. Biglands ( melissa.bigland@his-xian.com ) or our Head of Secondary School Mrs. Smith ( jacqueline.smith@his-xian.com ).
