Congratulations for Hanova PYP Authorization!

By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

We are completing our first week of school in this new academic year. A few students, teachers and assistants have joined us during this week, and we still expect a few more during next week. For any inquiry about the school logistics, contact Ms. Yang zena.yang@his-xian.com of our Marketing and Liaison team.

PYP Authorization. Congratulations again to the PYP for their success in becoming IB authorised. Hanova is now an IB Continuum School.

It has been a long journey over several years, and particularly in the last 6 months in the lead up to the Verification Visit in June, the PYP teachers led by their Coordinators Melissa Biglands, Petra Vejvodova and Betty Molerot worked extremely hard to ensure the PYP section meet strict IB standards and practices and provide excellence in IB education. Our PYP teachers were commended in the Authorisation Report for being a collaborative, effective team and for their significant improvement in maintaining documentation required. Even if we are a small school, the IB Visitors were very impressed with our efforts! An enormous thank you to parents and the school community for their continued support to achieve this IB authorisation and to develop even further our commitment to our School Vision.

Primary News. The PYP classes have begun this academic year with enthusiasm and positivity and everyone settled into the routines again with ease. There were lots of smiles and excitement as students caught up with friends and met their new teachers and class mates. Even our new students have had a great first week.

A warm welcome from our Head of Primary and Primary Leadership to welcome our new students and their families to Hanova and of course our new teachers!

Our “Meet the Teacher Afternoon” will begin at 2.30pm on Tuesday 22nd August. Please visit our campus, as this is an opportunity for you to meet all the fantastic teachers in our PYP team this year and find out specific information about your child’s class.

This week our Marketing and Liaison Team has sent out a lot of information to give you an outline of the PYP curriculum covered in various year levels. The Programme of Inquiry outlines the Units of Inquiry that will be investigated; the Programme of Inquiry Timeline has approximate dates of when the Units will be implemented; and the Language and Maths Scope and Sequence documents contain knowledge and skills to be developed over the year. For any questions regarding the PYP curriculum, contact our PYP Coordinator Mrs. Biglands ( melissa.biglands@his-xian.com ).

Secondary News. A warm welcome from our Head of Secondary and Secondary Leadership to welcome all new and returning students and families to Hanova and of course our new teachers! We trust everyone has had a relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable summer break. All Secondary students were greeted first thing on Monday morning, when we held our Secondary assembly to outline the activities of the week and to introduce our new members of staff.

This week in Secondary, all students have been purposefully engaged in a DP or MYP Induction programme, which has been a great start and roll out to the programme of study. All students have had a first class experience, getting to know their teachers and classmates and renewing existing relationships through team building exercises, House activities, academic pursuits, CAS and SA experiences and information sharing sessions, amongst other worthwhile endeavours. Time was also spent reviewing existing policies, procedures, timetables, routines and essential agreements – some timely reminders of Secondary school life after the long holiday!

In particular, the MYP students have learnt about the core areas of the MYP, which drive all subjects: the IB Learner Profile, our approaches to learning and teaching, Service Action at Hanova and the Personal Project.

We will be following the regular academic timetable from Monday and next week, you will receive more information about the Secondary programmes and academic activities. This week, all Secondary parents should have received a welcome email from their child’s Homeroom teacher – if that is not the case, please contact directly Mrs. Smith ( jacqueline.smith@his-xian,com ) or Mrs. Li ( lilian.li@his-xian.com ).

Hanova Parent Teacher Association. As we start this new Academic Year, an important initiative will be to re-launch the Hanova Parent Teacher Association (HPTA).

I remind to all parents that they are automatically members of our HPTA. In addition, any parent can become “Helping Member”, contributing more by getting involved in events, activities, communications, productions and charity projects that will take place in Primary School or Secondary School or at the whole school level.

The HPTA Constitution is available on demand from the School Office, and we welcome your application to inform us of your desired contribution to Mrs. Bi ( grace.bi@his-xian.com ).

A Coffee Morning for parents will be organized soon, to detail one last time all the opportunities available. We will then proceed with the appointment of the committees during September.

Thanks again for your continuing support.

Yours,

Francesco Masetti-Placci
