Another week completed with important news from our school. Hereafter this week’s short summary to keep you informed.
Primary News. Our March Readathon is in full swing as PYP students enjoyed literacy activities and dress days based on Dr. Seuss’ books last week. This week our students are busy decorating their door as their favourite Dr. Suess book. It’s all about reading wherever and whenever you can!
Year 2 students did musical chair activities outside to explore UoI books on natural resources.
And thanks to all Year 6 parents who have attended the PYP Exhibition Parent Information session last Friday. Our students need your support and it was great to see such a supportive group of parents!
MYP news. Our Year 11 students had a fantastic trip to the Qingdao Amerasia International School (QAIS) in Qingdao last week. Mr. Rafael Angel and Mrs. Sandy Trull connected through the IB’s North China MYP Coordinators’ Network and Hanova accepted his invitation to join their Personal Project Exhibition, since this type of collaboration would enhance our students’ learning and develop their appreciation of the IB community.
Mr. Rafael and two Student Council representatives met our team upon arrival at the airport, with a dinner organized with their students and they adapted their learning programme to take out our team, treated like honoured guests!
All MYP 5 students from Hanova and QAIS certainly achieved our objectives and participated in the joint Personal Project Exhibition. Our students received glowing reports from parents, staff and students. Both groups shared Service & Action projects that they have completed this year and we were complimented on how well we have developed this integral part of the MYP.
In addition, QAIS DP History students took our students on a tour of the historical areas of Qingdao and discussed our students’ historical investigation over a delicious lunch!
On Friday evening, after a very busy week our team was invited to their Spring Dance event, which was so much fun! And, on Saturday morning a group hiking was organized up the mountain to see the tunnels and caves used for the defence of the city in turbulent times.
We would like to end off by quoting from Mr. Rafael’s reflection of the event: “The IB Middle Years Programme offers unique opportunities for teachers and students to experience learning from a very personal perspective, and if the right opportunities to expand students’ experiences are made, they will be prepared for more than the IB DP. They will begin to build their future!”
We are very grateful to all those who made this trip possible and especially to Mr. Rafael, our guest in QAIS, who inspired it, and to Mrs. Trull, our MYP Coordinator, for all the preparation done.
MYP Parent-Teacher- Student Conference. This week the MYP Interim Reports will be available in Managebac. Next week, on 21st March, our Secondary team will organize the MYP Parent-Teacher- Student Conference of the Second Semester. Parents will receive a letter about this event and need to make an appointment with all the teachers they would like to see.
We also encourage students to attend these meetings with their parents and we especially encourage all Year 11 parents to see the teachers of subjects that their children wish to follow next year in the Diploma programme.
Upcoming university visit: We continue to welcome visits from universities, to maintain the engagement of our students for their future higher education studies. These are the visits planned for this week:

- NYU Abu-Dhabi visit 13:00 on 22nd March
