A trip around the world in one day!!!

By Mr Robert Muntzer

Dear Parents and friends

Hanova’s annual International Day 2022 - Written by Mr Aristipo Rodriguez, Head of Secondary.  On Friday April 15th, at Hanova we celebrated one of our favourite annual traditions: International Day. Diversity, Open mindedness and Intercultural understanding play an important role in our community, and International Day give our students the chance to learn about other cultures, their traditions, dresses, music, among other things.

At the beginning of the day, we had the traditional Parade. 21 countries enjoying and celebrating the multiculturalism in our school.

Later, our students were invited to visit all the corners of the world represented by the continents: Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Antarctic. Also, they were invited to play different games and sports that are part of some cultures, such 毽子,鸡毛毽, badminton, dodgeball, stilts, four squares, and rugby throw.

At the end of the day, the whole community were watching an exciting basketball game students vs teachers/staff. It was perfect as a closure of an amazing day for everybody.

“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences.”   - Audre Lorde

M22 IB Examination - Written by Ms Sharon Zhu, DP Coordinator.  The M22 IB Examination at Hanova starts from Wednesday, 4th May to Wednesday, 18th May. All the Year 13 students would sit in the examination with all IB May candidates in the world, and this is the time to examine their academic outcome after two years’ effort. The exam timetable will be sent to candidates and their parents soon. Wish them all the best of luck to their examination!

Year 5’s “How the world works – state of matter” Ice Cream Experiment - Written by Mr Jonathan Knibloe, Year 5 Teacher.  For this unit of inquiry, students in year 5 have been working with the different states of matter in a hands-on way.   When we think about gases, liquids, and solids, Year 5 has done more than just memorize vocabulary and write sentences.  Working with a range of different experiments the students have learned how the periodic table works, why measurement and the metric system is so important to science, and they actually dove deep into scientific investigations.  Making ice cream in class was a great challenge in this unit of inquiry as we looked at how removing energy in the form of heat from a liquid can create a solid.  It was also a great way to create a delicious treat!

PYP Read-a-thon 2022 - Written by Ms Jeannie Rice, Head of Primary.  Each year, the PYP students enjoy a Literary focus month to encourage our students to READ! This year, students spent extra time reading, focusing on vocabulary, and learning about new authors and favorite book characters. Each student made a personal reading goal and chose how many minutes they planned to invest in reading – and all of those who made their goal were recognized at the final assembly!

This year’s ‘Read-a-thon’ included a variety of special activities and ‘dress up’ days to promote excitement about reading! One interesting ‘Read-a-thon’ activity was the ‘Read Anywhere Photo Contest.’ Enjoy some of the most creative entries from our PYP students!
