Spring Football Season Underway – written by Mr Paul Robinson, Director of Sports. Thursday 8th March saw the first ever Secondary School girls football team take to the field away to XIS. The girls were ably supported by some of our Year 6 footballers and in what was an excellent display ran out 4-1 winners, thanks to 2 goals from Faith, and a goal each from Isabella and Emily. To have a girls’ secondary football team participating in inter-school games is another proud moment in the development of girls’ sport at Hanova and the girls are already looking forward to their next game against XLIS on Saturday 18th March.
On Saturday 11th March it was the turn of our High School football team who began preparations for the Chan Ba Trophy against XLIS. A nervous first half performance saw the Hawks go in at the break trailing 1-0, but after some strong words at half-time and a change in shape the team looked more balanced and controlled the majority of the 2nd half scoring an excellent equalizer through Akemi. However, a late lapse in concentration saw XLIS score a winner on the counter-attack with the final score finishing 2-1 to XLIS. Let’s hope for a more positive outcome when we entertain XIS on Tuesday March 21st.
Year 4 students bury a time capsule in their new forest – written by Mr Andrew Symonds, Year 4 Teacher. The year 4 students of our school have created a special project that will connect them with their future selves. They have buried a time capsule in their new forest, which they planted earlier this year in celebration both of planting a forest this month and of the school’s ten-year anniversary this year.
The time capsule contains letters that the students wrote for themselves, expressing their hopes, dreams, fears and questions for their future selves. They also included some photos of the class.
The time capsule will be opened when they are in year 13, which is nine years from now. The students hope that by then, they will have grown into confident, successful and happy students who can look back at their year 4 memories with fondness and curiosity.
The time capsule project was inspired by a fake 100 year old time capsule the students discovered in the forest two days previously, which had actually been planted by Mr. Symonds. We hope that this project will help the students develop a sense of identity, perspective and gratitude for their lives. They also hope that it will encourage them to keep learning, exploring and dreaming throughout their school years.
This project is also a celebration of the school’s 10-year anniversary, which marks a decade of excellence in education and community service. We are proud of our school’s achievements and we look forward to many more years of growth and innovation.
We congratulate the year 4 students for completing this wonderful project and we look forward to seeing them open their time capsule in 2032!
Junior Chang’An Cup campaigns begin – written by Mr Paul Robinson, Director of Sports. Our PYP basketball teams began their Junior Chang’An Cup campaigns with mixed results against visiting teams from XIS and XLIS. Our boys team struggled to impose themselves in the 2 games they played, but managed to show fighting spirit throughout the games going down 22-8 (to XIS) and 32-10 (XLIS). A mention goes to Year 5 Jacob who was the boys stand-out performer in both games.
The girls recovered from a slow-start and in the 2nd half exerted their control against XIS with our girls’ team beginning the defence of their trophy with a 14-4 victory. As it seems to be the norm with our female Hawks teams it was an excellent team performance with many members of the team making key contributions.
Junior Chang’An Cup Basketball continues this weekend (Saturday March 18th) with the boys taking on 2 teams from Kangchiao and the girls’ team entertaining XLIS.
Also this weekend…..
Our U14 football team take to the field this Saturday (18th March) against XLIS at Hanova campus. This is the first friendly game ahead of the U14 Chan Ba Trophy.
