Exploring Community Action and Web Design with Mr. Kushal - written by Mr Cristian Felice, Year 6b Teacher. On April 9, 2025, the Year 6 students had the privilege of participating in a transformative workshop led by Mr. Kushal, a seasoned volunteer and web design expert. Mr. Kushal shared his inspiring journey of community action in India, igniting the students' passion for making a difference in their own communities.
During the workshop, Mr. Kushal emphasized the importance of taking action and being proactive in addressing social issues. He recounted his experiences volunteering in India, helping disadvantages children learn. His stories resonated deeply with the students, encouraging them to think critically about the issues affecting their own community and how they could contribute positively.
One of the key takeaways from Mr. Kushal's talk was the idea that anyone can make a difference, regardless of their age or background. This message empowered the students and instilled in them a sense of agency and responsibility.
In addition to sharing his volunteer experiences, Mr. Kushal also delved into the world of web design. He demonstrated how effective websites can be powerful tools for communication, promotion, and community engagement. With practical tips and guidance, he showed the students how to create meaningful websites that convey their messages effectively.
By sharing his knowledge of image sourcing and web design, Mr. Kushal equipped the students with the skills they needed to showcase their exhibition projects in a compelling and engaging way. These websites will not only serve as platforms for sharing their ideas and initiatives but also as tools for sparking dialogue and mobilizing support within the community.
The workshop with Mr. Kushal was an invaluable learning experience for the Year 6 students. It not only broadened their understanding of community action but also empowered them to use technology as a tool for positive change. As they continue to work on their exhibition projects, they will undoubtedly draw inspiration from Mr. Kushal's words and strive to make a meaningful impact in their community.
TOK Exhibition 2024 - written by Mr John McGovern, TOK Coordinator. Dear Hanova Parents,
The DP1 students will soon be exhibiting and explaining their work for the TOK Internal Assessment and all members of the community are welcome to join.
When? 10th May: 2:00-3:30pm
- When? 10th May: 2:00-3:30pm
- Where? Secondary School 1st Floor
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a core component of the Diploma Programme that all students must complete. In their first year of the DP, students will create an exhibition as the internally assessed component of TOK. They will choose three objects to display in relation to a prompt (knowledge question) given by the IB to students worldwide. Examples of these questions include:
- Can new knowledge change established values or beliefs?
- Is bias inevitable in the production of knowledge?
- What role do experts play in influencing our consumption or acquisition of knowledge?
DP1 parents will be able to see their children exhibiting the work, and for MYP parents this will also be a good chance to understand more about the requirements of TOK in the DP.
We look forward to seeing you in school to support our students in the DP!
Hanova announces Junior MUN - written by Yulia, Year 12 Student. The Hanova MUN is thrilled to introduce the first Hanova junior MUN. Over the past semester we have successfully held an high school MUN and went to an external MUN conference.
MUN is an interesting socializing event. Students who are interested in meeting new people, widening their horizons, or just simply looking forward to trying something new would all receive a lot from this experience. For lower middle school students this is a great chance to try out MUN and prepare for joining the MUN club in their future school life and join the MUN leadership team.
In this conference, there will be 2 clubs offered (to be determined based on amount of students that join). It will be a half day conference on 11th of May and students will be discussing about global issues such as nuclear energy, processing of nuclear waste, carbon emissions, students will represent countries in the UN committees, or provinces in China for our special committee CAEA.
We look forward to seeing students sign up through the sign-up survey.

Journey into Xi'an's Cultural Heritage - written by Mr Ferdinand Els, MYP Drama. Recently, our Year 10-12 Arts and Design students embarked on an exhilarating journey into the heart of Xi'an's rich cultural heritage. On April 19th, they boarded the Xi’an Metro and took a journey into the past. Through their exploration of "The Longest Day in Chang'an" Theme Block, they delved deep into the vibrant tapestry of Tang Dynasty life and culture.
With enthusiasm and curiosity, our students immersed themselves in the sights, sounds and tastes of ancient Chang'an. They wandered through the theme block marvelling at the meticulously recreated Tang Dynasty marketplace and streets. Throughout the vast complex, there were variety of artistic experiences and performances to enjoy including traditional music, Western Chinese folk dance, acrobatics and dramatic re-enactments from the renowned historic drama "The Longest Day in Chang'an".
This immersive exploration of Xi'an's cultural heritage underscores the interconnectedness of learning at Hanova. It's a testament to our students' curiosity, creativity, and dedication to embracing new experiences and broadening their horizons. Congratulations to our Year 11-12 Arts and Design students on their triumphant exploration of Xi'an's rich cultural heritage, and a heartfelt thank you to all involved in supporting and nurturing their adventurous spirit. Here's to many more inspiring journeys and collaborative learning adventures in the future!
