Community, Competition, and Character-Building

Dear Parents and friends

Results from the U9 / U11 Chanba Trophy.  Last Saturday, October 26th, Hanova hosted the annual Chanba Trophy for U9 and U11 football teams from Dehong, Kang Chiao, XIS, and XLIS. The 5-schools, 14-teams, and hundreds of participants made for a true feast of football! The tournament is always a memorable experience for players, coaches, and families as we come together as a community, experience healthy competition, and grow in character through athletics. Thanks to all the participating schools for encouraging all of our young student-athletes, and to all the Hanova teachers and staff for their support—the event couldn't be run so well without your help!

Remarkably, our young Hanovians won all three divisions of the tournament, a first for the school! Check out the highlights below.

U11 Boys Get their First Championship - written by Mr Sam Quan. The Hawks U11 Boys played two teams in the tournament, the Red and Green, with the Green team taking the trophy, a first-ever championship for Hanova’s U11 Boys. Both teams truly showed their effort, dedication, and passion. Well done to all U11 Boys team players!

U11 Girls ALSO Get their First Championship - written by Coach Lindsay & Coach Attie. Last Saturday, our U11 girls' tournament highlighted the team's impressive growth this season. Despite having only nine players, they showed incredible teamwork and determination. Hanova secured a narrow 1-0 victory in the semifinals, while the final ended in a tense 0-0 draw. In the penalty shootout, our goalkeeper saved all attempts and even scored the winning penalty kick, bringing the trophy home for Hanova. It was an exciting display of unity and grit!

Perfect Season for the U9 Football Hawks - written by Coach Daniel.  Last Saturday, the U9 Coed football team claimed the Chanba Cup, capping off a flawless season. The young Hawks dominated every match, conceding just two goals across the entire season. After a strong victory over XIS in the semi-final match, they sealed the championship with a big win over XLIS. This marks their second consecutive season as champions. Well done U9!

U19 Xian Volleyball Classic 2024 - written by Coach Julian. The Hawks arrived to XIS for this year’s annual volleyball tournament confident after a good end to the regular season. They started the quarter-final against KCIS nervously but grew into the game. Serve became more accurate and blockers began to anticipate hits. A 2-0 Win saw the team advance to a semi-final with the season league leaders XIS. This time a confident start on service and improved control on service receive helped the team secure the first set. XIS rallied to take back the second set but the players were able to hold their nerve and secure the final set (2-1 W).

The final against XLIS was very competitive; either side could have taken the game but thanks to some excellent defense in back court and at the net, great setting and some fierce spiking, the team came out on top 2-1 W. Thanks to all the players and spectators that made this a fabulous day.

The Hawks’ squad: Jason, Will, Steven, Akemi, Noah, Xenne, Peixin (Captain), Maddie, Riley,  and Benny

Of special note:

All tournament team award: Noah and Xenne

All tournament MVP award: Xenne

Congratulations Hawks!
