New school build. On Tuesday we signed an exciting contract to acquire land (more than 60 mu in area) in the Chanba Ecological District in Xi'an. This district is located in north Xi'an and is well served by road and will be by subway. The new build to be located there is planned to have accommodation for 1,000 students and will have significantly improved Sports facilities. This will become our second campus in Xi’an and will gradually become the main site. There is no intention to close our current campus in the foreseeable future.
Our initial proposals are to open this new site in August 2016 or 2017 as we want sufficient time to make good preparation. This is all some time off but we wanted to keep you fully updated with such an historical development for Hanova.
IB Diploma Information Meeting for Parents of Years 10 to 12. As part of our IB Diploma Verification Visit, which will take place in November, we would like to invite the parents of students in Years 10 to 12 to join us in an information meeting. During the meeting, you will be formally introduced to the IB Diploma teachers, who will elaborate upon their subjects’ contents and assessment components. You will also be briefed upon our key Diploma policies on Assessment, Academic Honesty, attendance and behaviour. You will also have an opportunity to see our CAS programme and we will be providing a workshop on how parents can access Managebac to oversee their children’s work. We will also be looking at ways in which our students can be best prepared to meet the challenges in Year 12 August 2015.
This is a very comprehensive and important meeting, and it will take place in the Auditorium at 4.00pm-5:30pm on Thursday, 25th September. Refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you there.
Xi’an City Wall Run. Last year a number of staff, parents and students enjoyed taking part in the Xi’an City Wall Marathon. Hanova intends to have a number of people taking part in the run again this year. There are three different events you can sign up for: Once around the Xi’an City Wall (13.7km), a quarter run (4km), or a half marathon (21km). The cost is 30rmb per contestant. This price includes a T shirt, a run number and a ticket to get on the wall. If you are a member of staff at Hanova or a parent, or a parent with children and would like to take part, please let our office know by contacting april.hu@his-xian.com . To register to enter you will need to pay 30rmb per entrant, state the race each one is taking part in, and send us your passport number and visa number by September 26th at the latest so we can register you via Xianese for the event. Students will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult as it will not be possible to keep a group of runners together all the time as there are many entrants.
Saturday Sports. On Saturday mornings for the last two years a number of members of our school community gathered together to play sports. This happened from 9:30-12. Mr Sam Quan will be here throughout this time. Families and friends are invited and there is no age limit - everybody welcome. It is an event for all the family. There is no adult supervision provided by the school. Mr Quan’s role is just to help give out and collect the sports equipment. Transportation is also not provided. Saturday Sports will be cancelled if it is a wet day or the temperature too extreme. You will receive an email from Mr Quan by 9am if the day is decided to be "wet".
We intend to restart Saturday sports next weekend on depending on the weather.
Emergency closure days. You may have seen from the School Calendar on our website and emailed to you that the last day of school for this academic year is set for Friday, 19th June 2015. The following days from Monday, 22nd June to Friday, 26th June are set aside for additional days if the school has to close for any days owing to weather conditions such as snow or any other unforeseen emergency. If you are booking your holidays for next year (I know these are a long way off at the moment but some people are super-organised!), then please bear in mind that the school may be open for some of that week beginning 22nd June. I am aware that full attendance is important for learning, but also is a requirement for entry to some educational institutions.
Best regards,
Martin Hughes
