Upcoming House activities

By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

Secondary Inter-house Events. The Secondary School students have been engaged on Friday 13th November in two Inter-house events.

First: the Inter-house Quiz, which was all about INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS, was held in the house home rooms at 12noon. Houses had to work as a team to answer questions.

Then: the Inter-house Football, played on the football field. The competition has been fierce and students have all enjoyed a great afternoon entertainment.

After the Inter-house Football, a staff vs. student match took place. See next week’s newsletter for photographs, announcements and results!

Primary Inter-house Activities. The first PYP Inter-house event for the year took place on Friday 6th November: it was a Quiz for Years 4, 5 and 6 students. The students did a great job of working together across the year groups to come up with the answers.  Han was the overall winner of the Quiz.

The next event was the Inter-house Football, for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students, which took place on Friday 13th November.

PYP Year 4 Trip to Muslim Quarter. Year 4 students went on a field trip to Xi’an’s Muslim Quarter to experience their culture and explore various ways of advertisement. You can find the pictures in our school’s web site photo gallery.

Bo-Ai Sports Challenge. You may have noticed an increased training effort by teachers and students in November, to prepare our school competitive teams. On Thursday 10th December, Hanova U16 Football and Basketball teams will be travelling to the Bo-Ai International School for our first of the season matches.

We wish all our players success! Mark your calendars, and if any parents would like to go and support their children please arrive by 1.15 at Bo-Ai International School.

Movember at Hanova (Ha-MO-va). Parents and visitors may have noticed that most of the male Staff members at Hanova have stopped shaving their faces since the beginning of November. This is not because they all lost their razors! Since Hanova's opening year, we have participated in charity fundraising by growing moustaches and beards for "Movember."

Movember is an annual event that started in Australia and has since spread around the world. The goal of Movember is for staff members to be voted as having the best or worst facial hair. During the last week of the month, students will be given the chance to pay 1 RMB for each vote that they want to give to teachers in their goal to earn the coveted titles of best or worst Movember. Students can vote as many times as they want, and all money raised will go to charity.

Information Sessions and Events. As we approach the end of the Semester, we continue to hold regular sessions to communicate with parents and students. A brief reminder of the upcoming school information events:

  • IGCSE and MYP Parent Conference, scheduled for 18th November
  • PYP Parent Conference, scheduled for 19th and 20th November
  • Re-enrollment forms, due by 23rd November

Thanks again for your continuing support.

Yours,

Francesco Masetti-Placci
