Hanova’s fourth year concludes

By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

Our fourth year has seen the school progress to become a top international school: last summer we received authorization to become a Cambridge school, this winter we became a UCAS and SAT center and a licensed center to offer the prestigious International Award. We have also started the accreditation process with WASC (the US Western Association of Schools and Colleges), receiving very positive feedback after the initial visit, and made great strides towards authorization for the MYP and PYP programmes, to become a full IB World School during the next school year.

Fourth Year Reflections.  There have been so many rewarding, enriching and memorable times for all of us this year. The entire school community – teachers, staff, students, parents and guests – have collaborated to launch new academic programmes and initiatives, including the related exams and exhibitions, to grow the number and quality of events throughout the year, to increase the effort and visibility of our charity projects and commitments, to expand the sports program with different teams and activities. You can remember some of these moments through the Yearbook, through our photo galleries on the school web site and through the friendships developed in these situations.
From our side, I want to acknowledge the great support from you in this year of development and change, as at every activity and event – academic or extra-curricular – the parents and community have supported us – students, teachers and staff – in our joint educational journey.

New staff for 2015-16.  The end of the academic year is always a time when some students and staff leave to go on to other countries, posts or adventures. I personally wish well to all the families from our community who will leave Hanova and thank them for all that they have done in support of our school.

From our side, the school continues to grow – with more students applying and sitting for the admission tests, with plans to expand the courses on offer in both Primary and Secondary schools – especially continuing to develop the Diploma Programme, with additional development of the premises over the summer to accommodate these changes and to increase safety and security.

While we wish well to the teachers leaving our school, in order to staff this expansion and to cover natural turnover, we will inform during summer of the new appointments made, with a a brief biography for each new teacher or member of staff.

Summer break.  I hope all families will be able to have quality time and good rest over the summer break, while we will ensure appropriate preparation of the school and related resources. We hope that students will come back refreshed and energized for the new school year.

During summer, the school office will remain open, weekdays 9am-4pm, although with fewer staff than normal, also ensuring appropriate support to inquiries and admissions.

Last News.  We will post the last news and photo galleries on our school web site, A reminder about the final field trips in Primary and Secondary, where students will experience the last experiential education for this school year. We are grateful to all teachers, parents and staff for the organization support received in gradually expanding this important part of the curriculum.

Last Day of School.  You may have noticed from the School Calendar on our website that the last day of school for this academic year is set for Friday, 17th June 2016 – only a half day, with buses leaving at lunch time.

2016-2017 Academic Year.  School activities for the 2016-2017 Academic Year will start for all students on 15th August 2016. New families and students are welcome on 12th August for Family Induction day on campus. The new school calendar is already available on our website ( http://his-xian.com/wp- content/uploads/2016/05/Hanova-calendar-2016-17.pdf ) and if you have any special inquiry, please contact Ms. Yang of our Marketing and Liaison team zena.yang@his-xian.com.

Thanks again for your continuing support and enjoy your Summer Holiday.

Yours,

Francesco Masetti-Placci
