By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

This week the American tradition celebrates Thanksgiving, and we can take this opportunity to show appreciation to family and friends, and for the positive aspects of our lives. Next week we will enter the month of December, starting the countdown to the Winter Holidays, which will start soon.

Hereafter the news and the activities information related to this week and to the upcoming events in preparation of the end of the Semester.

Secondary News. On Friday 15th December, the last day of the First Semester, the Secondary School will host a “Celebration Awards Assembly”, to which all Secondary parents are invited. The event will take place in the School Auditorium from 9.30am to 12.00 noon.

During this time all students (both those in the Diploma and those in MYP) will receive certificates of outstanding academic achievement, for the subjects in which they have excelled.

12.00 – MYP Dance presentation and close of ceremony.

Parents of students who have been awarded a certificate will be notified by December 4th. However, we strongly encourage all Secondary School Parents to attend this ceremony celebrating the conclusion of a most successful First Semester of this academic year.

Art Competition. Two of our students, Micah Rice (Year 11) and Jade Borisrame (Year 6b), both won complimentary prizes in the Little Start magazine’s “A Green Future” art competition. Congratulations for their creativity and to our Primary Art teacher, who has mentored our school in this achievement. Their works will be on exhibition in the school lobby till the end of the semester

Christmas Lightning Ceremonies. Different groups of PYP students (From Year 2 to Year 6) will sing at three key hotels, as part of their Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremonies. We are proud to support the city events and be involved in our communities.

This week, on November 24th, at 6:00pm, our students will be at the Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremony of the Hilton Xi’an High-tech Zone in Gaoxin District

During next weeks, on December 1st, at 6:00pm, a large group of students will perform at the Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremony of the Shangri-la hotel and on December 8th, at 6:00pm, another group will perform at the Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremony of the Gran Meliá hotel.

Author visit. A reminder that next week, from Monday 27th to Thursday 30th November, we will host Allan Gibbons, an international author for children and teenagers. During his stay, Alan will be holding special creative writing workshop sessions and storytelling sessions with our students, taking them from building ideas to writing drafts to the ending process. He will be bringing some copies of his books, which students can purchase and he will kindly sign them. Since copies of the books are limited, you can contact our librarian, Ms. Hou, to place an early order ( ).

Primary Winter Concert. A reminder to parents to book their presence to the PYP annual Winter Concert “The Crazy Alarm Clock”, which will take place the Wednesday 6th December at 6pm. An invitation has been sent to all families, asking to confirm their presence to our Marketing and Liaison Team. Please note that tickets will be limited to 2 parents / family members per student.

Hanova Christmas Market. A reminder about the upcoming Hanova Christmas Market, a community event devoted to fun and social activities. Staff and Parents are working hard all the preparation and logistics, to ensure it will be an outstanding day. Our Secondary students are working hard in their house groups to make crafty items, which will be for sale and the proceedings will be donated to charity.

School Health Policy. A final reminder about our health policies and procedures, since in November, a lot of students have been absent due to illness. All parents have received the “School Medication Procedure” and the “Back to School Health Guidelines”: please comply with all the instructions, for the wellbeing of all our students and staff. For additional information please contact our Marketing Team or our Nurse Mrs. Yan ( ).

Thanks again for your continuing support.
