Primary Winter Concert 2017

By Francesco Masetti-Placci

Dear Parents and friends,

a few more weeks and we will break for the winter holidays. In these last weeks, on one side we are starting all the celebrations for the festive season, on the other all teachers and students are progressing in preparation of the upcoming reports at the end of the Semester.

Primary News. Our students continue to experience our education philosophy, with several activities inside and outside the classroom. This week, our Year 1 students made dumplings with their parents as part of their Celebrations Unit.

Author visit. From Monday 27th to Thursday 30th November, we are very lucky to host Allan Gibbons, an author for children and teenagers. Alan has been writing children’s books for twenty-three years. He is the winner of the Blue Peter Book Award 2000 “The book I couldn’t put down”. He was shortlisted twice for both the Carnegie Medal and the Book Trust Teenage Prize. Alan has also won the Catalyst Award, the Leicester Book of the Year, the Leicester Short Novel of the year, the Angus Book of the Year, the RED Award (twice), the Stockport Book Award, the Birmingham Chills Award, the Salford KS4 Award, and so on. Alan is a born storyteller: whether it’s fantasy tales of werewolves and demons or gripping stories about teenager’s real life struggles, Alan can spin a story to excite even the most reluctant young reader.

During his stay, Alan will be holding special creative writing workshop sessions and storytelling sessions with our students, taking them from building ideas to writing drafts to the ending process. He will be bringing some copies of his books, which students can purchase and he will kindly sign them. Since copies of the books are limited, you can contact our librarian, Ms. Hou, to place an early order ( amy.hou@his-xian.com ). We are really looking forward to having Alan with us, and reading all the stories that our students will create with him!

Book Fair. We want to thank all students and parents who have ensured the success of our recent book fair organized by Beijing Star Kids Children’s Bookstore. We enjoyed the presence and support of many parents and friends looking at all books on display in the library.

Primary Winter Concert. PYP parents are invited to our annual Winter Concert “The Crazy Alarm Clock” which will take place the Wednesday 6th December at 6pm. Our Primary students will use instruments, costumes, dancing and acting consist to present a wonderful musical journey throughout time ages.

An invitation has been sent to all families, asking to confirm their presence to our Marketing and Liaison Team. Please note that tickets will be limited to 2 parents / family members per student.

Christmas Lightning Ceremonies. Different groups of PYP students (From Year 2 to Year 6) will sing at three key hotels, as part of their Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremonies. We are proud to support the city events and be involved in our communities.

On November 25th, at 6:00pm, our students will be at the Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremony of the Hilton hotel. On December 1st, at 6:00pm, a large group of students will perform at the Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremony of the Shangri-la hotel. On December 8th, at 6:00pm, a large group of students will perform at the Christmas Decoration Lightning Ceremony of the Gran Melia hotel.

Hanova Parent Teacher Association. Our HPTA is progressing quickly, and has established two sub-committees, animated by lead parents and teachers: one devoted to events and charity, another to academic and class support. These sub-committees organize the related activities and provide support to the school students, families, teachers and staff. Hanova values the support from parents and families and we are grateful for the enthusiasm demonstrated in these recent weeks. For inquiries and copy of HPTA material, please contact Mrs. Qiu ( jj.qiu@his-xian.com ).

Staff Professional Development. Friday 17th and Saturday 18th November, all the Hanova Teachers and Staff spent time on collaborative professional development. We are grateful to our parents, who have kept their children home on Friday, and to all staff and instructors who have devoted so much effort during these last days.

Thanks again for your continuing support.

Yours,

Francesco Masetti-Placci
