Early Years playground sand play

By Mr Robert Muntzer

Dear Parents and friends

The developmental benefits of Early Years Sand Play - written by Ms Emma Tidmarsh, Early Years Coordinator. Sand play is not only fun, but also quite valuable as well. Sand play provides countless developmental benefits to children. Regardless if it’s at the playground, in a sandbox, at a sand table, or at the beach, playing with sand can provide a lot more than a good time!

Sand Play promotes physical development, building skills, hand-eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, muscle strengthening and endless possibilities to support creativity and imagination! The addition this year of a large sand box on Hanova's Early Years playground has inspired our young students to exercise their creativity every day!

Basketball Season updates in Primary and Secondary - written by Mr Paul Robinson, Athletics Director. After months of hard work, and despite missing crucial training time in January the development and improvement in the players was very evident in our Secondary Boys and Girls Basketball teams. The opportunity to compete in the Chang’An Cup at XLIS was unfortunately canceled due to city COVID restrictions. Despite this disappointment, the platform has been set for competitions in the years to come – a huge thank you to Mr Dusan, Mr Jason, Ms Andrea, Ms Alex and Mrs Dowdy for their coaching and support of the teams.

Mr Dusan and Mr Jason are currently preparing PYP Basketball teams – we are delighted to announce that we have both boys and girls teams preparing for the Junior Chang’An Cup. This consists of a League phase where Hanova is planning to host schools for the first time at our new campus. We are hosting on Saturday, 16th April and Saturday, 7th May with an “away” trip planned on Saturday, 23rd April. The season concludes with a tournament being held at XLIS on Saturday, 14th May.

Year 12 1/2 Report and Parents Conference - written by Ms Sharon Zhu, DP Coordinator. The second report for Year 12 students was issued on Friday, 11th March, and this is an “interim” report that contains grades to indicate students’ current academic position. The Y12 parents’ conference was held on the following Wednesday, 16th March. It was a remote conference that was conducted via Zhumu as our school was closed last week. The parents and students have made appointments with their teachers, coordinator to meet online.
