MYP 4 Geography field trip to Sha Jing Cun urban village – Written by Mr Gary Wood, MYP & DP Humanities. As part of the Geography unit on urban development and city limits, the MYP 4 students took a trip to Sha Jing Cun urban village. This was a great opportunity for students to witness the unique Chinese phenomenon of urban villages (城中村) and how mass urbanization and urban growth played a part in the development of these lively enclaves. From this trip, students were able to learn the value and role that urban villages have played in China’s rapid economic growth, along with an analysis of their demographics and how these small areas provide a service for the populations who live there as well as those in the wider city. A big shout out to Miss Mindy and Miss Jane for coming along and helping to supervise the students. #inquirers
Primary Sports Day – Written by Mr Paul Robinson, Director of Sports. Thursday 27th April was the rearranged PYP Sports Day event. Throughout the day our upper primary children participated in range of track and field events such as 50/60m sprint (heats and finals), hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put/tennis ball throw and javelin. In addition, we also had tug o’war, basketball free throws and sack race events. This year we also had the early years children on the field participating in 30m sprint, football dribble, sack race, egg & spoon/bean bag balance race, hurdles and obstacle course events.
The weather was glorious with sunshine throughout and the smiles on the children’s faces throughout the day was fantastic to see. The level of competition has improved and a staggering 11 of the 14 existing new campus sports day records were broken. We were also thrilled to see so many parents being involved, setting up refreshments for the children, supporting all the children in the events and participating in teacher/parent sprint and/or tug o’war.
