Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC)

EXPERIENCING ACTIVITIES AND CULTURES BEYOND THE WALLS OF THE CLASSROOM

An overview of our EOTC Programmes

We firmly believe that a holistic education is not limited to the classroom, thus we encourage our students to challenge themselves and venture beyond their comfort zones in the outside world. As part of their education at Hanova, students have opportunities to participate in field trips to domestic and international destinations. This allows our students to experience different activities and cultures in a learning environment that the classroom cannot always provide. As students become older the length and challenges associated with these excursions increases until such time that our senior students are expected to become actively involved in the planning and leading of their excursions.

Hanova offers our Primary and Secondary students a variety of 'Education Outside the Classroom' experiences

We encourage our students to challenge themselves and venture beyond their comfort zones in the outside world.

Residential Weeks & Overnight Camps

Primary School students in Upper Primary classes will venture further away from Xi’an into at least one field trip / excursion which will involve them spending few nights away from their homes, together with their classmates and teachers. Secondary School students will experience an outdoor education program each year, whose focus is for students to explore connections between their learning and the world around them. Each year group may have its own program, designed to maximize the experience for students in that age group. These trips also help students to develop bonds that will last for longtime.

Field Trips & Excursions

As a part of the total learning experience, all classes, in both Primary and Secondary Schools, will participate in field trips during the course of the school year, usually associated to concepts, units and subjects taught in the classroom. All field trips, excursions and activities are organized and supported by the school teachers and staff. Most of the field trips, excursions and events will take place within the city of Xi’an and Shaanxi Province during the school day. Some special activities and events (for example sport invitational events, Model United Nations conferences, leadership excursions, … ) may require out of town and / or overnight field trips.

The Duke of Edinburgh International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, bringing together practical experiences and life skills to equip young people for life. Since it was founded in 1956, by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, over eight million young people have participated in the International Award in over 140 countries and territories. Schools, colleges, universities, employers, social clubs, youth organisations, religious organisations, sports clubs and more all run the Award. Hanova is a licensed centre, offering the International Award to our Secondary students.

The International Award is voluntary, non-competitive, challenging and balanced, and requires effort over time. There are three Award levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Young people design their own Award program, set their own goals and record their own progress. They choose a Service, Physical Recreation, Skills activity, go on an Adventurous Expedition and, to achieve the Gold Award, take part in a Residential Project.
