Hanova PYP recently hosted our annual Read-a-thon. This year’s Read-a-thon theme was “Reading Adventure 2021: Where will reading take you?” And what an adventure it was! Our students set extra reading goals and rose to the challenge showing how truly amazing they are.

One of the highlights of our month of reading activities was Word Day. Students and Staff were encouraged to dress up as a vocabulary word of their choosing. The hallways were filled with parts of speech of all kinds, and students were able to show off their vocabulary knowledge during our Word Parade and Reading Buddies activities.

We ended our Reading Adventure with a full PYP assembly. All students and teachers from Nursery to Year 6 were gathered together in attendance. Students who met their reading goals were awarded certificates. Our amazing PYP students read a total of 92,866 minutes during the Read-a-thon. Amazing readers!

Ms. Kim, our Nursery teacher, organized a shared reading of four different well-known fairy tales. She divided the lines from the fairy tales among every student in PYP: Han House – Three Little Pigs; Qin House – Gingerbread Man ; Tang House – Little Red Riding Hood; Song House – Beauty and the Beast. Students, sometimes joined by parents, recorded themselves reading the lines, and Ms. Kim put all the recorded lines together to tell the full stories. The fairy tales came alive and the sound of giggles bounced around the auditorium as we listened to ourselves retelling the famous stories in a brand new way. A big thanks to Ms. Kim for leading the Fairy Tales! It was so lovely to see our Learning Community come together. Everyone truly made this year’s Read-a-thon a huge success!
